Q&A with BG Head Coach, Justin Wheeler

What makes him a leader?
His work ethic and desire to win.

What are his strengths?
Internal drive to be the best and a love and understanding of football.

How has he grown as a player?
He has always been a great player even as a freshman, but over the past 30 games he has matured into a complete player.

When he first entered your program did you know he would be special?
Yes, the first game vs Johnstown when he was in 9th grade facing a team with 20+ seniors that was loaded, he never backed down even after the team had 6 major injuries in the first half. He continued to give everything he had.

What is he like on the practice field?
He is a great practice player. I am a true believer that the things that you do in practice show on Friday nights so we practice as well as we can each night and Brandon does a great job in that respect.

What was the most amazing thing you’ve seen him do?
In a 14-14 game vs Forest Hills he returned a kickoff for a TD, than a punt for a TD and threw for 100 yds and a TD. Leading us to a 40-14 win.

What are you expecting from him this year?

As a soon to be four year starter and a player who will be playing on Saturday’s next year at most likely a Division 1 school, we are expecting great things. It’s not too often that you get to coach a 6’1 190 lb player who runs a 4.47 40yd dash, can bench 300+lbs, excels in the classroom and is truly a great person who loves football. So we expect great things and are excited for the season.
