Preseason District 6 Class AA Power Rankings

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

1. Ligonier Valley 0-0 @ Marion Center
Ligonier Valley finished the year with a strong 9-3 season, and the hope is now they can take the next step to a district championship. Fortunately for the Rams, they have the best player in AA, and perhaps District Six overall. Collin Smith will be taking his talents to West Virginia in the Big 12 next season, but first will be looking to light up Heritage Conference scoreboards in 2016. Smith is a dynamic athlete that is a force on both sides of the ball.  Look out for senior linebacker Elijah Parrish this season, he was a tackling machine in 2015.

2. Bishop McCort 0-0  Bishop Carroll
Bishop McCort is coming off a 3-7 season, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The Crushers were young with many sophomores in key spots and competed throughout much of last season, but with another year of experience a leap forward is expected. Levi Cook is back at quarterback and has started every game the past two seasons. McCort has a trio of skilled players in Anthony Walters, Carnell Andrews, and Andre Nash that should be able put up points on the board.  The Crushers open with Diocesan foe, Bishop Carroll.

3. Mount Union 0-0 Huntingdon
The Trojans have been a really strong program in recent years, and they should have another good team this season. Devhon Kuhstos and Quinton Posey split the quarterback duties last season, and both are back after combining for 15 touchdown passes. Big 5'10" 210 pound junior Daunte Martin should have a handle on the running game after a 1,000 yard campaign in 2015. The open with rival Huntingdon. Last year's game was a tight contest settled by 4 points, and it should be another good one.

4. Bellwood-Antis 0-0 @ Tyrone
Bellwood has had a year to think about their 41-7 loss to Tyrone last season, and will look to avenge that loss in week one. The Blue Devils have big senior quarterback Jarrett Tanneyhill to lead their offense. He threw for 1,4000 yards and should have the trust of John Hayes to air it out even more this season until they find a consistent running game. Bellwood is just one of those programs that will always find a way to at least be in the conversation in their respective classification.

5. West Shamokin 0-0 @ Blairsville
The new guys have an element of surprise.  The Wolves posted a respectable 4-6 record in a competitive conference in the WPIAL. Zach Stover should step in a be a factor at QB. Jacob Szul and Devin Fairman will be some of the key skilled position players on offense. A trip to Blairsville will be their welcome to their new league/district.

Just Missed (Alphabetical) - Cambria Heights, Richland, Southern Huntingdon, West Branch,  Westmont.

Nice read here...one thing, Brandon Stover from West Shamokin graduated and played his last game at Purchase Line last year in a 38-14 win...he had 181 yards on the ground and 73 yards passing in the game...his brother Zach Stover will be a sophomore this year...they have big shoes to fill with Stover and a big lineman graduating this past June...

Interesting because I clicked on Zach's name and it directed me to Brandon, so their Maxpreps operator has a mix up there. I couldn't tell who was who.
