Preseason District 5/6 Class AAA Power Rankings

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

1. Central 0-0 Hollidaysburg
Central opens the year with 5A Hollidaysburg at home. It should be a strong test, but Central seems like they should be up to the task. In fact, the Dragons have a brutal first few weeks, and we should know a lot about them before September ends. Central is coming off a Western Final appearance, and had WPIAL power Aliquippa on the ropes. They will have to find a replacement for Noah Benton at QB, but with Alex Hoenstine they have one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the district. Hoenstine accounted for 41 touchdowns last season, and scored them in 5 different ways. He also tossed a touchdown pass as well, he can literally do it all. This team has a tough road to start the year, but it will make them battle tested for the long run.

2. Juniata 0-0   @ Susquenita
Juniata broke through last season to the district title game before falling to Central. The Indians displayed a powerful, high-scoring offense throughout the season and that should be the case again this year. Tyler Clark threw for 1,900 yards and 28 touchdowns last season, and will be back for his senior year. Gone will be all-everything Chantz Swartz, but for Fletcher Hart and Spencer Page should be able to handle the running back duties. It's always tough to gauge this team since they play a District 4 schedule, but they proved last season they are capable.

3. Tyrone 0-0   Bellwood-Antis
The annual Backyard Brawl will once again kick off Tyrone's season. The Golden Eagles will look to make it four straight over their archrival. Tyrone has some good pieces in place, but will be ushering in a new starting quarterback this season, likely sophomore Denver Light. Gary Weaver had a stellar junior season with 1,500 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. Parker Mitchell and Michael Lewis are two veteran wide receivers that had strong seasons in 2015. The line has some experience as well, but the key will obviously be the young quarterback.

4. Huntingdon 0-0 @ Mount Union
Huntingdon will be welcoming in some new faces this season at some key spots.  Sophomore Andrew Hudy should be the full-time starter at QB this season after seeing some time last year. Ian Border will be the team's featured back after taking a backseat to Jon Wagner in 2015. Border is also a key factor on defense as a linebacker. The Bearcats lost to Tyrone by three in the playoffs to end last season, and will have that on their minds going into this season.

5. Forest Hills 0-0  @ Westmont
Forest Hills is coming off a modest 5-6 season and an early exit in the playoffs at the hands of Central.  They will look to take some strides this season, and that will likely be behind their sophomore quarterback, Adam Cecere. The young signal caller started as a freshman and showed a lot of promise, and expectations are high for him moving forward in his career. Look for Eric Elgin to have a solid bounce back year after an injury filled 2015 season.  The Rangers could be a surprise team this season. They will get it started with a trip to Westmont on a Saturday afternoon.

Just Missed (Alphabetical)  Bald Eagle, Bedford, Central Cambria, Penn Cambria, Philipsburg-Osceola
