1. State College 2-2
The Little Lions are off to a 2-2 start, while having played a difficult schedule in the early going. They picked up key wins over North Allegheny and Harrisburg, and one of their losses was to Class A Philadelphia power, Math, Civics, and Sciences.  They only lost to the Mighty Elephants by 3 however. Junior 6'6" forward , Drew Friberg, is leading State College in scoring, rebounding, and assists. He's off to a great start this season. State High hosts Mifflin County and will travel to Chambersburg this week, two very winnable games.

2. Altoona 1-2
Altoona picked up 1 win in the early portion of the season over West Allegheny in the WPIAL.  They have a pair of losses to Baldwin and Cumberland Valley.  Doug West's squad will travel to Kiski on Friday night.

3. Mifflin County 0-2
The Huskies are off to an 0-2 start to the season, and they have tough road games to State College and Cumberland Valley before Christmas.

1. Central Mountain 3-0
Central Mountain has had three very convincing wins to start the season. They are winning their games by an average score of 66-36.  The schedule should pick up soon, including a big road game at Hollidaysburg Tuesday night, which is almost assuredly to be a district title preview.

2. Hollidaysburg 2-3
The Golden Tigers had to replace a lot of key players off of last season's team, and it showing right now.  Hollidaysburg holds a pair of wins over Westmont and Hughesville. They lost to Forest Hills on their home floor, something not many were expecting. They host a big game with Central Mountain on Tuesday, and they have one more before the holiday with Penn Cambria coming to town on Thursday.

3. Bellefonte 0-3
The Red Raiders are still in search of their first win. They host a very good Clearfield team tomorrow night and one with Philpsburg-Osceola Thursday.

1. Johnstown 1-0
Johnstown has only played one game, and they secured a win over Cambria Heights.  The Trojans head up 219 tomorrow night to play Bishop Carroll, and that's all that is on the schedule before Christmas.

2. Forest Hills 2-1
Forest Hills is 2-1 to start this season. They hold impressive wins over Somerset and Hollidaysburg, two teams that have given them trouble in recent seasons as they were all members of the old "AAA" classification.  The Rangers are showing some balance with three kids averaging in double figures.  They did drop one to Forest Park of Virginia, but they appear to be a solid team. They host Bedford tomorrow night.

3. Tyrone 2-1
After a tough loss to Bellwood to start the season, Tyrone has won back to back contests. One of those wins includes a 60-58 nail-biter over Central in overtime by a score of 60-58. They have a tough week with a home game against rival Huntingdon and they head up to face undefeated Clearfield.

1. Central Cambria 4-0
Four games, and four solid wins for the Red Devils.  They have made a statement they are for real this season. They host Westmont tomorrow night in one of the biggest games of the week. Both Central Cambria and Westmont are among the top contenders in both the LHAC and District Six AAA races.

2. Penns Valley 3-0
As usual, Penns Valley is winning games and playing great defense. They are one of the most consistent programs around the area. They head to Roaring Spring on Thursday to take on Central.

3. Westmont 3-2
Westmont has definitley taken care of business when they should. They've also battled two very good teams in their losses as well.  Heading up to Central Cambria tomorrow night is a big one, and a chance to big up a huge early season victory.

4. Bellwood-Antis 2-1
Bellwood opened 2-0, but suffered a setback to a good Moshannon Valley team the other day. The Blue Devils head to Claysburg tomorrow night and host Williamsburg on Thursday, and there's a good chance Bellwood can be 4-1 heading into Christmas.

5. Richland 0-1
Richland only has one game to their credit, and it was a road loss to top-ranked Central Cambria. Hard to punish the Rams for that, just yet. They get Marion Center at home and a road game with Bishop Guilfoyle this week as they will be looking for their first win.

1. Bishop McCort 1-0
The Crushers had to wait a while to start their season, but they opened with a 57-48 win over Bishop Carroll. They will make the trip to Cresson to play Penn Cambria tomorrow night, and will host Berlin in a non-conference game on Wednesday.

2. Bishop Guilfoyle 0-0
Bishop Guilfoyle hasn't played a game yet due to their state championship run in football. They finally will get under way on Friday as they host Richland.

3. Moshannon Valley 3-0
Moshannon Valley already holds an impressive win as they went into Bellwood and beat the Blue Devils. They go to Juniata Valley tomorrow night and host Mt. Union this week.  They have a very good chance to open the year at 5-0.

4. Portage 2-0
The Mustangs vault into the rankings with a 2-0 start. They have a busy week coming up with three games in three days. Portage should be expected to win all three however and their hot start should continue.

5. United 5-0
Not many people were giving United love in the preseason, but here they are with a 4-0 start. Sophomore Collin Moore and Freshman Kyle Silk are carrying the Lions early on this season.

1. Saltsburg 4-0
As expected, Saltsburg is rolling this season. The Trojans could see some tests this week with Ligonier and a trip to Homer-Center.

2. Ferndale 4-0
Ferndale is cruising right now. The Yellow Jackets have a well-balanced team this year and they are showing it. They play the Conemaugh's this week with a trip to the Valley tomorrow and Township comes to The Hive on Wednesday.

3. Bishop Carroll 2-2
Bishop Carroll already has a loss to Ferndale this season, so they are a step below the top two teams at the moment.  I do think they have room to grow. The Huskies have a tough one with AAAA Johnstown visiting tomorrow night.

4. Williamsburg 2-1
The Blue Pirates get into the rankings after a nice 2-1 start. They host West Branch and head to Bellwood-Antis this week. Two tough games, as both of those schools have controlled the ICC in recent seasons.  Should be a good measuring stick for Williamsburg.

Westmont has a nice team, witnessed at UPJ's weekend tournament, but unless Jake Elders can check his attitude and leave it at home, Westy will have problems with better teams.  An acquaintance said he had the same lack of discipline in football.
It ain't over until it's over.

I haven't seen Westmont play yet this season, but I know they have size and they can shoot. They should have a nice season. I do recall from the Ligonier/Westmont football game Westmont did have some issues with penalties. I'm sure it'll get cleaned up here in basketball.

BC got thumped tonight by Johnstown 80-63. The Eckenrode kid can't stay out of foul trouble.
