District Six Boys Basketball Power Rankings 1/8/2017

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

AAAAAA

1. State College 7-3
The Little Lions split a pair of games last week. First up they edged Cumberland Valley by two points. They then went on the road and played a good Carlisle team tough, but came up short. I did see junior wing Drew Friberg added a Bucknell offer just before the New Year, failed to mention last time.  State High plays two on the road this week, Central Dauphin and Central Dauphin East.

2. Altoona 5-4
Altoona moved over .500 with a 2-1 week.  First up, Altoona knocked rival Hollidaysburg 44-37, perhaps their signature win of the season to date.  They also beat Erie Central Tech, but dropped one to Seneca Valley of the WPIAL.  Their Maxpreps page does not have a game on the schedule this week for the Mountain Lions.

3. Mifflin County 2-8
The Wolves went 0-2 last week.  They were beat by a good Harrisburg team handily, but they responded and played Central Dauphin tough.  They have road games at Chambersburg and Central Dauphin East, and a home game with Middletown.

1. Hollidaysburg 7-4
It was a hard fought game, and The Golden Tigers made an impressive comeback, but they came up short against Altoona. They rebounded with a 50 point win over AA Windber on Saturday to improve to 7-4 at the halfway mark of their regular season. Hollidaysburg has home games against two very good opponents this week, Williamsport and Punxsutawney.  Should be a good test for Brad Lear's team.

2. Central Mountain 5-3
The Wildcats had a tough week. It started well with an easy win over Huntingdon, but they ran into a very good Williamsport team that beat them by 20.  They then lost a heartbreaker to Selinsgrovr 57-56. They get Shamokin this week and travel to Shikellamy, two winnable games.

3. Bellefonte 3-6
Bellefonte beat Dubois to start the week, but ended it with a loss to Tyrone. They will be busy this week with three games, Central and Juniata at home, mixed in with a trip to Bald Eagle.

1. Tyrone 6-3
The Golden Eagles went 1-0 last week to move to 6-3.  It looks like Tyrone has three winnable games on the horizon this week as well. Quad-A is starting to get jumbled, with 6/8 teams having winning records at the moment.  Someone could take control of the standings, and I look for Tyrone to make a move this week.

2. Forest Hills
Forest Hills had a tough time out against Bishop McCort last week, but responded with a big win over Bishop Carroll just days later.  The Rangers have a big road game at Central Cambria this week, it would be a big statement win for Dom Vescovi's team.   There should be some very good battles in the post in that matchup with Holsinger and Bopp for the Red Devils and Cecere and Richardson for the Rangers.

3. Johnstown 4-3
The Trojans have been playing some very tight games lately. They beat Bishop Guilfoyle by 2 and Penn Cambria by 1, but lost to Westmont by 2.  Games like that help down the line, perhaps the Trojans can build something from these close games. Huge game on Monday night as the Trojans make the quick walk down the street to Bishop McCort. The McCort/Johnstown game is one of the best rivalries in District Six.

1. Westmont 7-3
The Hilltoppers retain the top spot after going 2-0.  Westmont handled Cambria Heights early in the week, then went to Johnstown and beat the Trojans by 2.  Dave Roman's team welcomes Bedford to town to start the week, then have a huge showdown with Bishop McCort on Thursday night.

2. Juniata 10-0
Juniata remains as the only undefeated team in the AAA ranks. They have two road dates this week with Line Mountain and Bellefonte.

3. Central Cambria 7-2
Many thought the Central Cambria/Bishop Guilfoyle game would be a close game, but the Marauders had other ideas.  I still think this Red Devils team is a good one, it just wasn't their night.  They'll look to bounce back with home games against Forest Hills and Bishop Carroll.

4. Richland 5-2
Greg Burke's team had a great week as they steamrolled Bishop Carroll and held off Bishop McCort to move to 5-2 and back into the rankings.  I really like the makeup of this Richland team, and I can see them going on a run. They have two section games this week with Somerset at home and a trip down 56 to play Bedford.

5. Bellwood 7-2
The Blue Devils are riding a modest three game winning streak at the moment. Their Maxpreps page is not updated, so they don't have any games on the schedule for this week.

1. Bishop McCort 6-1
Big games will pack McCort's gym this week, as they host their two biggest rivals, Johnstown on Monrday, and Westmont on Thursday.  It will be a good measuring stick in the very competitive LHAC section II.

2. Moshannon Valley 9-0
Moshannon Valley has been crushing everyone on their schedule so far, and it does not look like that's slowing down any time soon. The Knights have three home games this week with Williamsburg, Curwensville, and West Branch.

3. Bishop Guilfoyle 3-3
Bishop Guilfoyle had a tough 2 point loss to Johnstown, followed by a 4 point loss to Somerset.  They took out their frustrations however, as they crushed a very good Central Cambria team by 25 points.  Don't let the 3-3 record fool you, this is a good team.

4. Penns Manor 8-2
Penns Manor is one of the hottest teams in the area at the moment, as they have won six in a row.  They'll put that streak on the line against Blairsville, on Friday night.

5. Homer Center 7-5
Don't look now, but here come the Wildcats.  Homer has won three in a row, and seem to be finding a little bit of a groove. They have a big game this week with Ligonier on Wednesday night. The Homer Dome should be rocking.

1. Saltsburg 8-0
Saltsburg just keeps rolling along, but perhaps their toughest test is on the horizon.  They must travel to Punxsutawney tomorrow night. We'll see if the Trojans can compete with a bigger school, and I suspect they can.

2. Ferndale 9-1
Since their first loss of the season, the Yellow Jackets have reeled off three straight wins. They will welcome Blacklick Valley and Salisbury Elk Lick to the Hive this week, and will travel to Portage as well, in a big WestPac North showdown.

3. Williamsburg 5-3
Williamsburg handled Claysburg-Kimmel last week to improve to 5-3. The Pirates have three games this week, including a very tough road game at undefeated Moshannon Valley.

4. Bishop Carroll 3-6
Bishop Carroll is slumping, but they proved they can compete with the top class A teams as they have handed Ferndale their only loss this season.

McCort doesn't do radio. Does WCRO still do all the Johnstown games?
