AAAAA D6 Boys Basketball Playoff Preview & Thread

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

The Favorite  - Hollidaysburg 15-6

After a slow 1-3 start, Brad Lear's team turned the corner and closed the regular season at a 14-3 clip.  The Golden Eagles have strong guard play with senior Austin Finochio and junior Ethan Haupt, and those two players really carry Hollidaysburg's offense.  The Golden Tigers knocked off second-seeded Central Mountain twice in the regular season, but they were tight games.  A third meeting in the District VI title game seems inevitable, and it's always tough to beat the same team three times in a season.

The Challenger - Central Mountain 15-8

Central Mountain has had gradual improvements the past few seasons, and now they seem ready to finally breakthrough for a district title.  Central Mountain has exceptional outside shooting and that's their key to winning. Kyle Everhart, Brody Baker, and Wyatt Bumbarger can all fill it up from the outside, and each of them have made more than 35 three's this season. If they are hot they can absolutely claim the school's first ever  District VI title.

The Sleeper - Bellefonte 11-11

First-year head coach Kris Glunt seemed to get things turned around in just one season. They went from 7 wins last year to 11 this year and played some very good basketball down the stretch.  They have a tough task with Central Mountain in the first round of the postseason.  The two teams met way back on December 9 with Bellefonte losing 59-29, but things could be different this time.

The Underdog - DuBois 10-12

DuBois played a schedule featuring mostly schools in Class AAA or smaller, and that may not be enough to prepare fhem for teams like Hollidaysburg and Central Mountain. It's not their fault, as they are the biggest school in District 9 and had trouble finding games against equal sized schools.  They also didn't fare well when they played District VI teams either, with losses to Bellefonte and Cambria Heights.

The Picks

(1) Hollidaysburg over (4) DuBois
(2) Central Mountain over (3) Bellefonte

(1) Hollidaysburg over (2) Central Mountain
