PIAA Class AA Boys State Playoff Outlook

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

Western Team to Beat - Sewickley Academy
The Panthers have as talented of a sophomore class as anyone in the state. Isiah Warfield, a 6-4 guard, holds an offer to play for Duquesne and Jett Roesing, a 6-1 shooter, recently added an offer to play for Central Connecticut State, expect many more offers for both.  Isaiah Smith is also a talented guard to form a dynamic backcourt.  This team has a state title defend, and they look to be in good shape to do it.  This team has a talented group led by veteran coach Win Palmer.
Eastern Team to Beat - Math Civics, & Sciences
I'd ignore the 14-13 record for the Mighty Elephants, because the regular season schedule is always difficult. MCS is led by senior Kwazhere Ranson and junior Jihad Watson.
Local Team to Beat - Bishop Guilfoyle
The Marauders have had a banner year to this point. BG has already taken home the championships for the LHAC and District Six, now they will see how they can fare on the statewide level.  Chris Drenning's team has a talented group that can really score.  Luke Ruggery is already committed to play for St. Francis as a junior, and the sharp shooting guard could lead this team to some big victories.
Game to Watch - Bishop McCort vs. Berlin Brothersvalley
It should be an interesting game on Saturday at UPJ. Bishop McCort may be the three seed out of District 6, but they do hold some impressive wins this year over the likes of Ligonier and Richland.  If they are on, they can be tough to beat with Matt Petrosky manning the middle.  Berlin has a balanced team with six players averaging 6-8 points a game, but the star of the show is certainly senior guard, Nick Gooden.  The future division one baseball star is pretty good on the hardwood, and averages 19 a game and has over 1,400 career points.
Sleeper - Jeannette
The Jayhawks have some pretty good athletes, and that was certainly on display this Fall when they won the state championship in football. 6-5 junior Anthony Johnson is a really good basketball player, and will be a tough matchup for most teams. Robert Kennedy and Tre Cunningham are battle tested seniors that give this team an athletic starting lineup.
