Day two of the PIAA state swimming championships is underway at the otherwise shuttered Bucknell University.

Are PA schools waiting until the state basketball championships are completed to shut down?

I’m expecting the PIAA to make an announcement today. At the very least I wouldn’t expect fans at games. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire basketball tournament is postponed.

Unfortunate. Where was all the related paranoia with the influenza-A, which isn't included in the flu vaccines?

The reason for the extra news or worry with COVID-19 are a few things.

1. It spreads simarly but also faster than the flu/other seasonal disease. The airborne nature of it allows it to transfer person to person/person to surface very easily.

2. There is no vaccine for it yet or will be ready for around a year. So the battle is just the human body, which has a pretty good success rate, but even then the mortality rate is a lot higher than the flu.

3. 5% of infected reqiure hospitilazation. This is the top reason you are seeing these type of measures brought to stop public gatherings. If in 2 months we have this spread across country in total a lot of hospitals will not be able to handle the amounts of people who may need to be put in a hospital. Not to mention hospitals also include a lot with weak immune systems, a main target of COVID-19.

Just dont blame piaa, nba, news, trump, democrats or anyone. Everyone is taking similar precautions right now

Just watched Channel 6 noon news. A lead story was classes suspended at Penn State and State College High School. Then came the old "Oh, by the way", classes at the University of Pittsburgh, including branch campus at Johnstown have also been suspended. Seriously, don't you think our local campus, with hundreds of commuters, should have had precedence over others mentioned? Locals depend on Channel 6 for local news. Turned the station back to WTAE.
