Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
Re: Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Farrell Open Game Thread
The question remains, is there or is there not an advantage for high school football teams who can get there players from non-restricted borders?

I think we all know the answer to that question. Some just don't want to publically admit it though.El-Moldo wrote:The question remains, is there or is there not an advantage for high school football teams who can get there players from non-restricted borders?

There is an advantage, but I didn't see anyone complaining when BG was 0-10. If it's such an advantage why don't the privates win every year every class? Clairton is a public school and does just fine. Some have said "turn a blind eye for transferring and let it happen...." That's exactly what you guys do when kids transfer between public schools like from Altoona to Tyrone. It happens everywhere. As for BG blowing through their schedule this year so they should play up? Ferrell, Camp Hill, Old Forge, Clairton would have all breezed through the schedule as well, they were all that good. If you have a good team would you rather play in the LHAC or West Pac?

Camp Hill, Old Forge or Farrell would certainly have not have BREEZED through the LHAC this year like BG. Not saying they would've been tested week after week but Somerset, Bedford, Johnstown and hell probably even CH and Westy would have gave those three teams fits and a couple of them definitely would have put a few games in the loss column to them.CCDevil2012 wrote:There is an advantage, but I didn't see anyone complaining when BG was 0-10. People only care about Catholic schools when they win. If BG returns to their normal below average football program, they won't even get mentioned on this website ever again.
The thing about these arguments that does bother me - nobody gives credit to the kids that went up through the Catholic school system. I'd venture to guess 95% + of their team has.
So if a kid lives in Bellwood but went to a Saint somebody school since he was 6, there's not much to complain about on the Bellwood side of things. You can't lose something if you never had it.
I think we diminish the fact that Guilfoyle is a really good team and they should earn some praise.
I think we overlook Justin Wheeler has turned a winless team to a back to back state champion.
As someone mentioned, a Catholic school has won 4 of the possible 25 Class A state championships in the four class system. So let's not make it seem like BG did something that was completely easy.
BG is now the third team to win a state championship from our area. 25 years 4 classes 100 state champions only three from here. Again not easy for our area, and they've done in back to back.
I think we are selling short that Evan Chadbourn is one of the better football players from around here in recent memory. Aaron Yasuiltis is a hell of a football player. Josh Trybus just killed it on the state wide level on state wide TV!! That's amazing for these kids.
Feel however you want to feel about the system, but direct your anger at the PIAA and give credit to these kids and coaches. They earned it.

Irregardless, are NO borders an advantage in obtaining players? No one said it AIWAYS works out. But if it's an advantage, even in the slightest, the playing field is not level. What else can you say?

The playing field is never level. FH has the largest area to pull kids from, westmont has a large population of people with money, johnstown, has the most people. Look just at A schools and they all have advantages and disadvantages. Portage has half the amount of boys as the largest A team but probably has the most boys play the sport per student average. So is that fair? Should we limit the amount of boys that are allowed to be on the team per class? Or should we go by the percent of boys playing and make the classes from there? My point being BG had a heck of a team that has played together and they played as a team. They got lucky and have talent and athletes at the same time. If berlin or Farrell were to win it would be the same story, good players who play well together and have talent and athletes.El-Moldo wrote:Irregardless, are NO borders an advantage in obtaining players? If BG falls down, BC or BM takes over. Each type has 3 phases. Public schools either are bad, decent, or good (ex. Penn Cambria, Westmont, And Bedford) Private schools are either terrible, decent, or world beaters (ex. BC and St. Joes, BM, then BG)
If only closed minds came with closed mouths

Love crimsons quote..... people only care about catholic schools when they are good.....
Well the majority of them are always good. How many private schools are there? How many public? Whos won more state titles in all sports?
