Yes, it is. 257 students strong in a small rural community of 900 residents. Hyndman is about 23 miles from Bedford. Saltsburg is about 15 miles from Blairsville. It's also about 15 miles from Latrobe. If you had to travel 15 miles to get to school which one would you choose?

If Saltsburg starts a charter school taxes will go sky high in the District.

The Kiski Prep was "thrown out there" as an alternative to the Saltsburg public offering. Of course I know it's not a 'charter'. If you're going to pay to go to a school anyway, maybe the Prep school is a better alternative.
It ain't over until it's over.

Manfred. A significant error in your statement. The student doesn’t pay for the charter school , the school district pays each students share of the budget in this case Blairsville Saltsburg District will Pay between 15000 and 20000 for each student from Saltsburg that attends the charter school

From the western outreaches of the Saltsburg attendance area to the Blairsville school complex is 22 miles. From the eastern portion of the Saltsburg attendance area to Greensburg Salem high school is 24 miles. From the eastern portion of the Saltsburg area to Greater Latrobe High School is 23 miles. Saltsburg is in a quandary. Furthermore, where would they house a charter school? The Saltsburg school complex belongs to the BSSD. Do you really believe that they would permit a charter school to be housed in a building which they own? Especially when that charter school is going to cost the district a bundle!

There is also the matter of debt. Greensburg Salem or Greater Latrobe would have to assume a portion of the debt which the BSSD has incurred. They have remodeled every school in the district, so I imagine it would be significant. Do you really think that the Westmoreland schools want to take on that burden? Not to mention, Greater Latrobe just built a brand new Elementary school.

The Saltsburg businesses are so opposed to closing the Saltsburg school they will support a charter school and find a facility
