Re: Fall Sports
One district has a huge amount of teachers going on Sabaticals and taking early retirement.konjo78 wrote: ↑July 18th, 2020, 2:28 pm Im less concerned for sports actually being played being an issue than transportation and locker room safety.
At this point its almost undeniable that when states or areas opened up close contact crowded areas cases spiked across the country. Bars, beaches, full restaurants and even summer camps.
Schools opening up would almost certainly cause a significant increase as they are bars/beaches on steriods when it comes to close contact on top of their community reach. And while yes kids probably have the best chance to beat covid that doesnt mean they cant be super spreaders to their families/communities.
Not to mention what if teachers all dont go back? Most schools have over crowded classes to begin with and if 5-10% of teachers decide to stay home its only going to cause more issues for schools and class size. And i think 5-10% is a low estimate for teachers as many are going to be above 50-60 and be considered high risk. This is without mentioning any social distancing measures that are going to be required for school activities. 5 asympomatic kids in school for 1 week can easily lead to thousands of positive cases in a community in just the month after
It’s all about the kids, but nobody gave the teachers, alot of them are older and some have underlying conditions, a thought in this decision.
When they start getting sick and classes have to be cancelled or moved and no rooms are available it will be a mess n

So, we are down to 2 1/2 weeks until the season actually starts. Who thinks this might actually happen and high school football starts?

I think we need to see how the MLB NBA and NHL go if they can do it then maybe football can. I know with football there are more variables but fingers crossed maybe it can work.

Re: Fall Sports
I think the most interesting decision today was Pennsylvania denying Blue Jays from playing in Pittsburgh due to healh concerns.
But how come the pirates are okay to play at PNC then?

Re: Fall Sports
If you are in the NL Central, you only play teams from the NL Central or AL Central. It’s not a great plan, but it isolates things a little. By letting the Blue Jays in, you now have the NL East and AL East passing through Pittsburgh which expands travel/risk etc.
Again, it’s not sound logic but having a 1/3 of the league playing in Pittsburgh as opposed to 2/3rd of the league playing in Pittsburgh was obviously the reason why they shut it down.

Yep, that’s what I said. The pirates are only playing the NL Central and AL Central this year.
