Tyrone and Windber

Post by Crimson's Ghost »

Any truth to those two schools looking to join a new conference?

I’ve asked around and have heard nothing in regards to Tyrone. I’d be surprised as the Mountain league travel makes sense for them with everyone just a short trip off I99. Also the thought of them possibly having to give up the BA rivalry game would be surprising.

Heard they inquired with the LHAC! Allegedly Conemaugh Twp. and Berlin as well!

I heard two rumors, one that Central jumped quickly to the LHAC when Cambria Hts left to "beat Tyrone to the opening" so if true, Tyrone must be looking to move on. Windber is also looking so they would make a viable companion to keep the numbers even. The other rumor is that Indiana HS would come back to District 6 if the LHAC would take them so maybe they fit into this puzzle as well.

The Mountain League is falling apart. Central left for the LHAC, Clearfield trying to get into a D9 conference, PO is trying to get into the ICC, Penns Valley is trying to get into the ICC or a conference down east (farthest travel distance in MAC), and also heard talks of Huntingdon trying to get into the ICC as well. I wouldn't blame Tyrone one bit, if anything maybe the MAC and LHAC could do some sort of merger into an East/West, North/South, or Big School/Small School type of conference which would be a "win-win" for everyone and have a lot of interesting matchups that you normally wouldn't see yearly.

Tyrone would definitely be competitive and a great matchup in multiple sports. But Windber? Wouldn't joining the LHAC be a death sentence for its athletic programs?

I have heard that Windber has reached out to the LHAC. With the West Pac fading away, these schools will have to do something. The small school/big school split would have some merit, but it would also take something away from what they have now. A lot of changes coming, should be interesting.

Playing by classification like D7 would solve the league issues.
