United Blacklick Valley Co-ops

Post by cleaverstuart »

I was told by a former United coach (not football) tonight that there are serious discussions of United and Blacklick Valley co-oping in multiple sports just not football. I'm pretty sure BV is currently the small D6 school to field football themselves.

I also heard this and that BV was also exploring options with Northern Cambria.

United and Blacklick Valley have already agreed to a coop for wrestling and competitive cheer.

I would have to Believe likewise that CV in a co-op with Ferndale is the biggest reason that there is not talk of a BV/CV co-op. Mileage wise it is 9.8 miles between BV/CV, 14.0 between BV/United, and 15.8 Between BV/NC. Of course the shortest on would be between BV/Central Cambria 7.0 miles.

At what point do these schools just consolidate? Is there really a purpose for all of these schools to still be independent.

Putting together a co-op is relatively simple and quick and they are done out of desperation because it's either that or nothing.

The districts in general are not in dire shape yet and the process to consolidate them is very complex and full of political and logistical barriers. They will do it only when it's their absolute last option. I'm not advocating either way, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

So what happens with coaching when there is a coop? Do you have to bring in the coaches or just players?

Anyone know what happened at Juniors Valley and CT this year? Did coaches from both schools come together or just the staff from the main school?
