What if Football Conferences merged for scheduling

Post by footballguy99 »

Heritage, ICC, Westpac - Would this be better than current conference formats? Leagues get in the way of this but would it be better for the teams/schools vs being good for the league?

A Teams: 13 teams Conemaugh Valley, Purchase Line, Claysburg, Penns Manor, Moshannon Valley, West Branch, Northern Bedford, Tussey Mtn, Juniata Valley, Homer Center, Portage, West Shamokin, Glendale

AA Teams: 14 teams Everett, Meyersdale, Conemaugh Township, Berlin, North Star, Windber, Bellwood, Cambria Heights, River Valley, Southern Huntingdon, Marion Center, Mt Union, Northern Cambria, United-Valley (Blacklick-United) **Guessing they would be AA based on the 110 and 75 numbers that existed this time around.

Teams could schedule every two years using this system and you could force it to be all within or you could allow for 1-2 crossovers, rivalries, etc.

Argument for: Football plays once a week, so traveling on a Friday night isn't that bad. Play similar sized schools. Help small schools survive. Competition.

Would we do away with the district playoffs and just send the team with the best record to the state playoffs thus cutting two to four weeks off the season?

Most schools are already playing similarly sized teams in conference play. Do you really want regular season games between West Shamokin and Tussey Mountain?

Many conferences focus on all-sports alliances for scheduling purposes…not just football.

Good points. I was looking at a way to ensure a team like Heights, Bellwood, or Berlin could play each other.

Claysburg, Glendale, and Penns Manor do the same.
