Re: 2025 Boys state playoffs
5A
Johnstown is a tough case. I think they are capable of winning a few games in this tournament, but Moon could also beat them tonight. Tisinger and Robinson are a tough combo and they did play some WPIAL teams this year and beat all of them. Five of Moon's losses were to Montour and Chartiers Valley, two of the better teams in the WPIAL, so their record and seed might be deceiving.
4A
I think Central is fairly good. Muthler is a tough matchup as a 6-4 guard who can score at all three levels. Beaver seems winnable, but a second round game against North Catholic would be a tough draw.
3A
Both Forest Hills and BG are capable of making runs, I think. Stohon is an incredibly tough matchup for only a sophomore, and McGough is a good second option. BG just plays well together. AAA does have three other teams to watch in the West: Aliquippa and South Allegheny, the top two WPIAL teams. The bracket also somehow got 3-1 Trinity and they are pretty good too with D1 recruit Owen Schlager. Westmont and PC have tough draws obviously. I think North Star could win a game, and the Ridge kids are tough, maybe they pull an upset.
2A
Portage being in the East could be helpful for a run. Northern Cambria seemed to get an OK draw starting with a D9 team. Even though McCort is playing 7-2, Union was actually like the ninth place WPIAL team that got on a run, so not as daunting as it looks playing 7-2. The are three teams in the West, Jeannette, GCC, and Sewickley, that everyone will run into eventually. Windber and McConnellsburg will see firsthand on Saturday. McConnellsburg sort of has that team of destiny, once in a generation for that school district type of team. Would be cool to see them beat GCC at home.

Conemaugh Valley's draw with La Academia Charter is interesting. I think Berlin played them recently and they only have like seven players. In the West, it looks like Neighborhood Academy is the top team, they have a guard going to Yale. Imani moving to 6A (and missing the state playoffs) definitely opened the door here. Berlin was a year off, I think they'd win a state championship with this bracket.

Re: 2025 Boys state playoffs
For the local teams, the boys did not match the production as the girls did in the first round. District 5 entered the state playoffs with 7 teams spread across three classes, but only Turkeyfoot Valley, the Class-A champs made it through to the second round.
District 6 produced only four winners out of 11 chances. Only Johnstown, Forest Hills, Bishop Guilfoyle, and Northern Cambria are still standing. Overall, I don’t think that’s too surprising.
In AAAAA, Johnstown and Moon played a tight game, which is kind of what was expected. Moon won the WPIAL last year, so they felt better than their 7-7 seed. Tisinger just dominated the fourth quarter. I like Johnstown’s second round draw with Latrobe. I’m glad to see being ‘6-1’ means something to the PIAA, and they get to play closer to home at UPJ against Latrobe. I’m thinking the Sports Center should be pretty packed on Tuesday.
In AAA, Forest Hills cruised in the first round against Keystone Oaks for the most part. The second round game against Mohawk will be more difficult. Mohawk beat fellow LHAC team Chestnut Ridge 75-58 in the first round. Forest Hills beat Ridge by 24, so there is one common opponent to work off of. I still think Forest Hills is a tough out.
BG gets a tough one with WPIAL champ South Allegheny. BG is still tough, though. They have some good wins this year (Johnstown, Trinity, Forest Hills) and I think they’ll be prepared, but it’ll be a toss up I think.
Northern Cambria probably has the toughest task of anyone. Jeannette is legit. This would be a big upset if the Colts pull this one off. Maybe they catch Jeannette looking ahead to a GCC rematch in the next round.
Not sure about Turkeyfoot’s game with Aquinas Academy. Outside of Neighborhood Academy, I don’t think single-A bball in the WPIAL is overly strong, so TV should have a chance if they play well.

Re: 2025 Boys state playoffs
If MaxPreps is correct Latrobe lost to Uniontown 3 times this season and Uniontown just lost to Meadville after some big brawl but that should give Johnstown some confidence going into Tuesday night’s game.
Re: 2025 Boys state playoffs
PIAA just ruled the Uniontown/Meadville game a double forfeit as a result of the brawl
