Long time Chestnut Ridge coach Jim Clark
From the Chestnut Ridge Wrestling Facebook page:
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we learned today that long time Chestnut Ridge wrestling Coach and Teacher Jim Clark passed away after a brief battle with cancer
Coach Clark was hired in 1977 as a teacher and head wrestling coach at Chestnut Ridge, where he spent the the next 31 years at the helm of the Ridge wrestling program.
Under Coach Clark, the Lions wrestling program amassed a record of 342-158-3. The 342 wins are a record for Bedford County and District 5 wrestling coaches. His teams had 25 winning seasons including an undefeated regular season in 2005-2006. Coach Clark’s teams won 18 tournament championships, including the District 5 Title in 1983 and six conference championships.
During his tenure at Chestnut Ridge, he coached 56 District 5 champions, 40 Southwest Regional place winners, six regional champions, 30 PIAA state qualifiers, and nine state place winners including the school's first PIAA state champion, Gary Pfhaler, in 2008.
Coach Clark retired from coaching at the end of the 2008 season giving way to Coach Greg Lazor to build on the success of Chestnut Ridge wrestling program. Coach Clark was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008.
He was a tremendous influence on so many Ridge wrestlers and everyone of them could give you some kind of Coach Clark story. He will be greatly missed by all his wrestlers, coaches, teachers and family.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Clark’s family as they navigate through this difficult time.
