Get the Frack outta here Barry

Post by vman »

In March Barry accused his Republican opponents of being members of the Flat Earth Society because of their demands that the nation increase drilling.

In no small bit of irony, the President who bitterly lamented the rise of ATM’s and internet travel options accused the GOP of wanting to bitterly cling to the past.

But what of Barack Obama’s energy policy? He likes to tout wind and solar technologies and batteries, but it seems while he accuses the GOP of being flat earthers, the reality is that the President is himself anti-science when it comes to the reality of domestic energy needs.

The facts are pretty simple. As a matter of both science and reality, battery technology is neither good enough nor cheap enough to supply American needs relating to transportation. Even were there batteries available for vehicles, the cost of conversion for the tens of millions of cars on the road right now would be cost prohibitive and increasing fuel standards, resulting in smaller and smaller cars, penalize families. Try piling a family of four in a Prius for a trip to grand mom’s house for Spring Break. The luggage and leg room will make for an exciting time.

Even beyond the family car, a battery will not put an 18 wheeler on the road, a 747 in the air, or a locomotive on its rails. Americans depend on crude oil right now and in the future. To cling to the hope of a battery that can meet American automotive needs is anti-science and as realistic as fueling our future with unicorn farts.

Barry’s policies have done everything possible to drive up the price of crude oil in hopes that some mythical unicorn fart, solar panel, or battery will come online quickly enough to meet American needs. It is not happening. Going back to May of 2009, the President insisted on discouraging the “overproduction of oil” as potentially damaging to our national security. If only we had a President who understood supply and demand.

Under Barry’s administration, domestic exploration on federal lands and seas is down 40% The gains we have seen have come largely from one new find, Thunder Horse, approved by Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. The exploration on land has come on private land Barry could not stop.

For stability, the oil market depends on an excess supply of 1 million to 2 million barrels a day. The Keystone XL Pipeline would have provided an additional 700,000 barrels a day by itself. Barack Obama stopped it.

The reality is the Barry’s polling is going down because the logical outcomes of his policies are coming to pass. Now Barry is left to demagogue the GOP instead of actually doing anything because he really does not want lower gas prices. He wants, instead, to continue using government stimulus funds to explore unicorn farts, solar, etc. as an energy source. After spending over $15 billion, there are only 3,545 jobs to show for it and a lot of bankruptcies and wasted money.

Meanwhile, the oil and natural gas sector of the economy is creating 20% of the good jobs in America. Imagine how much lower unemployment could be if Barry was not so hostile to real energy......so guess what Barry's next target is?

Shale technology coupled with horizontal drilling has created the biggest oil and natural gas boom in recent years. Fracking could become the most auspicious innovation of the past decade. It has already created thousands of jobs, and has the potential to drive down the cost of energy and reinvigorate our economy. Unfortunately, the more successful the private innovation, the more Barry’s regulatory regime will ensure it faces inexorable obstacles.

Fossil fuel production on federal lands, in general, is at a 9-year low, with most of the shale boom taking place on state and private lands. Now the Feds want to ensure that shale fracking never takes off on federally owned land. On Monday, a top White House aide announced that despite the recent delay, the Department of Interior is still set to unveil new fracking regulations before the end of the year. Under the false pretense of protecting the water table, the DOI will create new guidelines for constructing wells for fracking operations on federal lands. This, despite the fact that there is absolutely no evidence that hydraulic fracturing contaminates the water supply. In fact, ubber-leftist Lisa Jackson, the Director of the EPA, has admitted that there is no proof to substantiate the claim promulgated by environmentalist groups.

We must be wary of allowing the federal government to obtain a foothold in this successful field. Up to 30% of all fracking wells are on federal lands and would be encumbered by these regulations. Moreover, many states, especially those with Democrat-controlled legislatures, will be inclined to mimic new federal regulations on state-owned lands, and even private land. At present, the states have done a good job in overseeing successful fracking wells. Let’s keep it that way.

It is incumbent upon Congress to block the administration from getting its hands on shale fracking. This industry is simply too important to be thrown to the mercy of Obama’s regulatory regime.

There is a legislative fix to this. House Republicans should take immediate action and pass Louie Gohmert’s FRESH Act, H.R. 4322. This bill would explicitly grant states the sole authority to regulate, process, and issue permits for hydraulic fracking, even on federal lands within its boundaries. This is a great preemptive bill that will create jobs and help lower the price of gasoline. Let’s prevent the federal government from putting the brakes on this engine of job creation and prosperity. There are currently 27 cosponsors.

The House Appropriations Committee might also want to consider ways to block funding to DOI regulations on fracking when they convene to mark up the FY 2013 Interior-Environment Bill today. This is something that must be nipped in the bud.

Good post. I also heard the Gov't. wants to increase the content of alcohol currently in our gasoline from the present 10-15 percent, to 25 %. Does ANYONE with common sense know what damage this will cause to any currently running engines, especially small engines? Burnt valves and pistons, what have you. Screwed up engine computers and fuel injection systems. Bend over and spread wide!
It ain't over until it's over.
