WestPAC Winding Down and Heating Up

Post by BigSkyCountry »

The WestPAC season wraps up official play this week with the Championship game to be held at Mount Aloysius College on Monday of next week. The South sits in a traffic jam with Rockwood (10-3), Shanksville (9-3) and Meyersdale (9-3) sitting really close to one another in conference play. Rockwood has defeated Shanksville twice and split with Meyersdale. Meyersdale split with both Shanksville and Rockwood. Rockwood has one South game remaining with Shade. Meyersdale has Turkeyfoot and Berlin and Shanksville has Turkeyfoot remaining in the South. It appears to me that Rockwood is in the drivers seat and controls their own fate. In the North, Conemaugh Township (12-0 conference) sealed the North last week and has 2 North games remaining with Ferndale and North Star. It should be a Rockwood v Conemaugh Township rematch in the Championship game. The Indians defeated the Rockets 7-4 earlier in the season. Neither squad utilized their aces in Troy Emert and Devin Foster.
I stated earlier in the season that Conemaugh Township, Blacklick Valley, Portage, Windber and North Star would win the South if that were their home. I would still hold that statement with the exception of North Star but they would finish higher than they currently sit in the North. The North schedule is much more competitive as a whole. Regardless, this matchup is unique with two of the most successful pitchers in the area facing off with one another in Emert and Foster. Emert. Emert currently has an ERA of .46 on the season with 73 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .152. Foster's ERA is .96 on the season with 94 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .144. Both are leading their respective teams statistically as well at the plate. Troy's BA sits at .545 and an on base percentage of .649. Foster has 3 homeruns on the season to Troy's 0. Both have over 100 career hits and Foster leads the strikeout stat with over 300 for his career. Foster's BA is .489 and has an on base percentage of .619.
This sets up for a great high school baseball contest. Anything can happen with these two on the mound. A baseball game is rarely decided by a single player. CT has a solid pitching staff with Poznanski, Kist and Byer to follow Foster and each has experienced success throughout the season. The bats of the Indians are fairly solid as well. Regardless of who comes out on top, this should be a low scoring affair and could easily come down to who makes the most/fewest mistakes.
There is going to be a solid high school game on the hill at the Mount on Monday, winner is??????

The WestPAC Championship goes to the Indians in convincing fashion. The Indians hit the ball early and often. The Indians Devin Foster struck out 12 Rockets in a 5 inning shortened game. The Indians had 11 hits off of Rockets hurler Troy Emert. Troy pitched well, CT was just determined and stroking it. Very nice venue at Mount Aloysius for both baseball and softball. They even have an all turf soccer field bordering the softball field. Nice upgrades since I was there last. Best wishes to both teams as they are both the #1 seeds in A (Rockwood) and AA (CT). Great warm up game for both going into the playoffs.
