2023 District 6 Baseball Playoffs

Post by Prince Sidewinder »

I am looking at the Single A standings on the District 6 website. Harmony is the #1 seed and only played 12 games. I looked at the other 15 teams who played and they averaged 18.47 games. Most playing 18 to 20 games. Harmony has played 1 game since April 26th!! Apparently teams do not have a minimum amount of games to be played. Should a team be penalized points for playing 6 less games than the average of the district? They missed a week because they only had 8 players and missed another week because their seniors went to Florida on a class trip and did not have enough players to play.

Was there any attempt(s) to re-schedule missed games?

If they haven’t played since April 26th it looks like they did not attempt to re-schedule. The weather has been fine and all the other district teams on all levels have been playing.

My understanding was that you had to complete 15 games to be eligible for the playoffs.

I think it would be better to go by straight points. That would make teams try hard to get all 20 games in by the cutoff. If you choose to play a 14 game schedule, you then run the risk of getting passed by a team that opted to play all 20.

Teams that only play 14 to 16 games have an advantage because they can rely on two pitchers because you’re only playing twice a week. If you opt to play 20, you will be forced to play three or possibly four in a week.

In some instances, even 5 games in a week. If you happened to play 2 regular games in a given week, and then in a large tournament like the Curve Classic that weekend, you play 5 games and run out of arms.

That’s understood but how can 15 teams be put to that test and one team plays 12 games and never be challenged with pitching.

There are 46 schools in District 6 with varsity baseball. 45 teams all played at least 16 games before the playoff deadline except Harmony. The Owls only played 12 games according to the District 6 rankings website:

According to Maxpreps they have played 13, looks like they got a game in yesterday after the brackets were released/playoff deadline had passed.

It also looks like a lengthy Altoona Curve homestand has bumped the D6 championships out of PNG Park for this season. The Curve are home from May 23-June 4th.
