Pitt/Penn St
When was the last time they were both undefeated at this point as we are about halfway through the season?
Who has the better chance, with the remaining schedule, of securing a playoff berth?

Re: Pitt/Penn St
Pitt would have to win the ACC to make the playoff. I don't see that happening. They've not exactly dominated average opponents. Penn State has also not dominated average opponents, but the Big 10 is going to get the benefit of any doubt. Penn State can probably lose 2 and still make it, especially with the win over USC, which is always overrated.
Re: Pitt/Penn St
Penn State has played only ONE team with a winning record and they're ranked #3 in the nation.

Re: Pitt/Penn St
Many teams in the top 10 have only played 1 or 2 teams with a winning record…
Re: Pitt/Penn St
Of the new top 10, 4 of those teams have played only 1 team with a winning record in 6 games. Meanwhile teams like Alabama and Oregon have played 4 teams with a winning record and Texas has played 3. So why play a hard schedule if you can play a weaker one and STILL have a great chance to make the playoffs?
Re: Pitt/Penn St
El Moldo. Penn State has beaten 3 very formidable opponents to this point. WVU on the road (2-1 in the Big 12), #21 Illinois at home, and a road game aginst USC. Let's not forget USC has a win over top 10 LSU at a neutral site. Keep in mind teams are something like 3-15 when traveling more than 2 time zones this season. You can't just rate opponents by their record at this point of the season.
Bowling Green, USC, Illinois, and WVU will all finish the year with a winning record.
There is one common opponent with Pitt and Penn State. Penn State's starters were wearing sweat pants in the 4th quarter on the road at WVU. Pitt required a miraculous 10 point final 3 minute comeback at home. Pitt is having a great year but the eye test tells me Penn State is probably 14 pts or so better.

We're not talking Pitt here. We're talking top ten football. Obviously, the sports writers of America DO rate teams by their records. First of all, what's so formidable about 3-3 USC and WVU? And are we going to use the time zone excuse now? Is that why Ohio State lost to Oregon? Or would UCLA have beaten PSU in California? If the sportswriters had any guts, they would have had Ohio State move to 3 BEHIND Oregon which gave them the game of their life on Saturday, and kept PSU at #4 since it took PSU overtime to nip a 3-3 team? Again, PSU who has played ONE team with a winning record so far got favored because of their record, and OSU got slighted and played a team who has played 4 teams out of 6 with winning records.
Re: Pitt/Penn St
You can argue all day, but until more teams have common opponents, not much you can do. Those teams Oregon beat with winning records were against mostly subpar teams like everyone else. You have to just keep winning and see how everything ends up at the end.

USC is a solid win for PSU. USC is 3-3 but are about 5 plays away from being undefeated. They have a victory over #8 LSU.El-Moldo wrote: ↑October 14th, 2024, 10:31 am We're not talking Pitt here.
