Pitt Football- Making strides
Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
From the Centre Times Daily: After Judge Lunsford dismissed the charge of sexual assault against Paxson (who is still in deep doo-doo and headed to trial on other charges), he said "I don't think she consented to ANY of this, But did she do enough to indicate this". What does that tell you, when a judge, who has heard all the evidence and presided over the hearing, makes a comment like that? So body language isn't enough? I guess mute girls have to carry flash cards around with them that say "NO, STOP!!!" You know, just in case.

first frostlion tells everyone that Houston is a I-AA team in football. Now bdftbllham has Pitt playing FRESNO STATE in a BCS game. You guys are going to have to get your act together if you're going to give info to the public. And ONE of you is a teacher. It's called being thorough.

I would rather get a team division wrong then calling a man a rapist, and blaming an entire University Administration and Alumni for supporting the concept of innocent until proven guilty.
Pitt probably wishes they played Fresno State, they might have been able to hold them to under 40 points.

Can it get any lower for Pitt? In an article about their Spring game the AP suggests:
"The fan turnout was light, only a couple of thousand spectators spread out in 65,500-seat Heinz Field -- or about one-tenth the crowd Penn State expects for its spring game next weekend."
"The running game was almost invisible, even on a day the offense ran 115 plays, or far more than it will get in any game next fall."
"The offensive line is a work in progress, as was evidenced by the unproductive running game and the defense's 12 sacks, half of them by senior defensive lineman Charles Sallet. And Sallet, even with his six sacks, said he could have played better -- "I should have had three or four more," he said."
And finally Wanny updates the world on the drive to "run faster":
"We've got a ways to go running the ball," Wannstedt said.

Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
Those games may have fallen into their laps, but they didn't have to accept them as was stated by someone earlier. Those opportunities came their way for what reason(s)?

I said it was an honor to be in those games. BUT THE POINT IS.......PSU did NOT schedule these opponents on their own. Just like you do not schedule a post-season opponent. They were originally happy with Akron and Toledo. So don't make it sound like they go out of their way to schedule top-notch non-conference opponents!!!!!

Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
I wish coach would not have deleted my "How Convenient" topic that was started awhile back about Scott Paxson. It was going good. Again, never called Paxson a rapist. Just reported what was in the paper. But when Judge Lunsford doesn't think SHE consented to anything, and he heard all the pre-trial testimony, what does that say?? Hey, at least O.J. was innocent.

Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
They were asked to be in those games because Penn State has tradition and makes money. It's hard to wrap your minds around a concept like that whenever 15,000 people show up in your stadium, but try real hard to understand.
Latest I heard on Scott was that he'll be fine by September.
And Kinlaw isn't that bad, so don't get too excited over him being the backup like the PSU world is about to fall apart.
For someone who supposedly reads as much as he acts like, Moldo certainly and convieniently missed the articles where the staff and players were praising Morelli for how much of a leader he has already become and how well he's been doing. But he'll "need the running game".
I watch more college football than anyone any of you know, and I've never even heard of Charles Sallet. Now, is he some freak of nature or is Pitt's offensive line THAT bad? Guess which side of the fence I am leaning on that one. From what I have been hearing and reading about Pitt, you better be dang glad you're playing The Citadel, because you might not win another game. You might be begging for Temple to play you again. Rumor has it Pitt's defense is even worse than last year, and as we know from history, that defensive coordinator is no genius at stopping even a one dimensional offense. Maybe Charles Sallet will do as well against seeing linemen as he did in that scrimmage against the players Wanny apparently recruited from the Pennsylvania school for the blind. You thought Palko had it rough LAST year? I mean, every game he was scrambling around like a maniac, and he played an entire season rattled beyond belief. At least last year he had a "threat" in Greg Lee, who as we all know was drastically overrated, but sometimes the media can make you fear a player who in reality totally sucks. But don't worry, Wanny will save the day. Just like he did for the Bears and the Dolphins.

Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
You know this topic/issue, Pitt vs PSU, will never resolve itself....but look @ the vigor and feelings it still stirs and they last played in what 2000? It is indicative of the obvious natural rivalry which still exists. But to avoid (@ Joe's direction) resumption of the series makes no sense, despite the "our big ten schedule is too tough" and "we would be making $ for Pitt if we gave them a home & home series" excuses! Did the Yanks avoid the Rebels, did the English avoid the French, did the Hadfields avoid the McCoys??? You get the picture, natural rivals should not avoid one another! All the rhetoric is excuse making!
And re scheduling, I reiterate that if you take out ND, your OOC schedule in the next 4 yrs is a joke: Akron, Youngstown, Fla Int, UCF, E Mich, Temple, Kent St....and if Pitt is such a joke @ least they have the ba!!s to schedule "real" teams as indicated by upcoming OOC games. Again, we have Va, NC St., Clemson, ND, Va Tech, Mich St, Iowa and Miami! Geez, sounds like that "wishlist" I heard earlier!
And you know what, I admit that Walt left the cupboard bare! And Tom B. kicked his a$$ in his own back-yard...in the late 90's, early 2000's PSU got every stud lb and lineman out of W. Pa.; most of these kids redshirted @ PSU when they would have played much earlier @ Pitt(out of need). So yes Pitt was left "thin" last yr. and it showed but knock Wanny all you want; the days of owning W. Pa. are over and Pitt will improve! And if Pitt is such a joke and a patsy, why not schedule them; it certainly fits in with the mindset of your OOC scheduling!
I believe this will be the 3rd time stated in this "topic" but I merely suggested the 2 schools play; burying any issues/ill will! All PSU fans can muster is "we don't need you" "we play Alabama in 2010".
I frequent the Pitt FB message board and it regularly puts down Penn St. and states over and over how we do not need PSU! My point is it comes from both sides; perhaps I'm being novel or naive thinking the series could resume!
At least Pitt is moving on; upgrading and scheduling top notch OOC games for many yrs. in advance...perhaps they have accepted Penn St.'s avoidance!

Re: Pitt Football- Making strides
Vman continues to miss the big picture. This situation with PSU and Pitt is not about a "hometown rivalry". It is MASKED as a hometown rivalry. And if Pitt doesn't need Penn State, they better buy a vowel. Pitt is in a situation where they are clearly not the better program than Penn State in history, luster, fanbase, or recruiting. Even in "bad" years, Penn State still recruits very well, and better than Pitt does. When Penn State does well, Pitt suffers. Even when Pitt does well in those years, they still don't make much progress in the overall war against Penn State. If Pitt didn't need Penn State, they wouldn't be making accusations about Penn State ducking them all the time. You surely don't hear any Penn State fans crying about our "rivalry" being cancelled and how Joe is a horrible human being because of it.
Listen, for the 10th time... if Pitt wants to play Penn State because they have something to prove, much like any team who has something to prove, and it is based SOLEY ON SOMETHING TO PROVE, they would play that other team ANYWHERE and play them 50 times at that stadium and beat them every time. THAT is proving a point. Going into the larger team's stadium 3 times in a row and winning those games is what proves a point. Because then it says "we went to YOUR place when you wouldn't come here and we beat you again and again and NOW we are proven and better than you". But... alas... that is NOT what Pitt is doing. But it's very, very easy to pull that wool over the fan's eyes. Pitt wants Penn State to come to Heinz because they will get 90% of that stadium full of Penn State fans. That's a hell of a lot of money, and will attract attention. It is a ploy and nothing more. Penn State will get little of that game income, even though the game is basically a home game for Penn State. But the great thing about this Pitt-PSU thing is that now since Penn State actually has some morale back, the Pitt fans aren't blowing their horn anymore about PSU ducking them. How convienient.
If it's about proving a point to the college football world, go to Beaver Stadium on whatever conditions PSU wants, and beat Penn State every time. But that will never happen. They are looking to cash-in on someone else's account.
Think about how much progress Pitt would have made last year if Penn State would have came to Heinz and beat Pitt by 30 points. Not much progess! Then what? You had a weak offense and an even worse defense, just like this year is going to be.
A great man once said... "to be the man, you gotta beat the man."
