Re: Ridge over Bedford 15 - 13
Point of clarification to those (mostly Bedford I think) fans who thought this game was meaningless. Nothing could be further from the truth.
The game was for the District 5-AA championship!
District 5 subregionalizes with 6 because we don't have the required 4 teams, however Dist. 5 still crowns a AA champion based on the District 5 rating system for all regular season games.
Although this game may have meant nothing in District 6, because they opted "not" to include 10th games, District 5 rule is ALL regular season games count. Bedford came into the game with a slight lead based on more AA wins but Ridge, with the win, won the title.
This game was a CHAMPIONSHIP game, not a meaningless one.

This was a poor Bedford team that Chestnut Ridge beat. Not making excuses they flat out beat them, and yes they were a 6 win team in the LHAC but it was a relativley weak LHAC this year with Carroll being down, and we'll see if Bedford really does match up with McCort or just was lucky enough to play them week 1 when they were not as sharp. So basically what I am saying is, this year's Bedford team could have easily been 4-5 if a typical Carroll team was in there. I'm not gonna sit here and say the teams in the past 4 years would have beat Ridge for sure, you can't simulate wins like but you also can't say because Ridge won this one that they would have won before. Good win by Ridge though, just makes me sick to watch that Bedford team out there have no fire and embarrass themselves.

So why did Bedford "embarrass" themselves? I thought they played hard the entire game and to say different is diminishing the win for CR.
Lefty was right about the sportmanship all around. No fights, no flat tires, no booing, etc. I didn't see the Ridge player taunting at halftime, but was told about it. I certainly don't like to see that, but it couldn't have been any worse than the Bedford player that did something similar earlier in the year. Let's not focus on either incident though.
By the way - where's OG at now?

Right here LionPride.
This may be the biggest win in CR football history. By all means...congratulations on that. I wasn't there to witness it, but I was there to witness their now 2nd biggest win, CR over FH in 97.
The question is will this win do anything for the program?
Honestly...I'm not sold on the win. The game didn't mean anything, and you probably beat the weakest Bedford team in a while. This team was the 5th best team in the LHAC this year.
I'm not going to sit here and say..."We'll see how you do against Tyrone"...cuz that's not really a fair measuring stick. On the otherhand...a win over an average team in the LHAC this year...in a meaningless game where Bedford is playing a team they already beat next week where they are going to need everybody healthy to win...the OG isn't convinced.
I think if Bedford was really concerned with this game...people would be on here calling for Swaims head. I mean for him to lose to Ridge...how dare he! Obviously the Bedford fans...like Swaim...are probably more concerned with next week when it really counts. I know Coach Bailey sat a few starters, or used them sparingly Friday night, and FH was playing the #1 ranked team in District 9.
Again congrats on the win...good luck on getting your first playoff win next week.

And the last thing I must tell you...NEVER QUIT!
I'm sorry, but anytime it's a rivalry game (and obviously it was according to what's written on here), it's a big game....to lose the game, then write it off as being unimportant is ridiculous....a good team wants to win every game...even a bad team wants to win a game against a rival...bragging rights, if nothing else....

OG - ask the Bedford fans how many starters were sat and if they were looking ahead to BM.
If FH played BM in week 10 and not Karns City, would it be meaningless?

Re: Ridge over Bedford 15 - 13
Its a real stretch to say Ridges victory over Bedford was the greatest ever. Certainly it was the best in at least 10 years. The victory over FH in 1996 I believe ranks up their as well. And beating Bedford for the first time with a D-5 AA trophy at stake makes it all the more special.
Beating an undefeatded NBC team in 1983 and holding Brain Koontz to under a 100 yards (He was averaging 200 a game!) ranks right up there!
In 1967 a 9-1 Ridge beat an undefeated Berlin team to win the League title. That was also a big victory as well.
