TAE, you do, obviously know a little about hockey cause that's just about how i see it too... except i think columbus makes the playoffs this year for the first time in franchise history. i've watched them play (in person) and let me tell you, they shut out philly 3-0 and i don't think that they could lose on a night when they're clicking. steve mason should be getting strong consideration for rookie of the year, although i doubt he'll get it. nash is one heck of a player and they have huseleus who is kind of off and on... also, i don't see philly winning the east, i'll give it to bean town.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
The biggest problems I have with the Penguins right now that they can fix is:
1. Too many shots from the outside- How many time has Crosby/Malkin been 15-20 feet out and passed it out to the defenseman for a shot.
2. Too lazy at times- They score a goal and instead of staying after it they go into ultra-conservative mode and piss away leads
3. No traffic in front- No one really has stepped up to be a force in front of the cage.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
4-1 Pens nearing the end of the 2nd. Finally looking like a hockey team tonight. Also heard the commentators saying they've been working on "trapping." Something like that. Ive never really heard about that, but its something about hanging in the neutral zone and stealing the puck? Not really sure exactly, but whatever it is, its working, and they need to keep it up.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
it's called playing the trap... new jersey and minnesota have been doing it for years now. not sure why more don't do it. many call it boring, but it's effective.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
Most teams don't play the trap anymore because of the rule changes, most noteably no longer having two line passes called. So the other team, in theory, could have a cherry picker on the opposite blue line and recieve a pass from his defensive zone, and then only have the defense to beat because the forwards were all behind him.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
Just got a Pens alert...
Pens acquire goaltender Mathieu Garon from Edmonton in exchange for G Dany Sabourin, F Ryan Stone, and 4th RD pick in 2011.
"Addressing our goaltending situation was a high priority for us and moving forward, we believe we've accomplished that as well as acquiring some valuable assets for our organization," Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini said.
Garon was Edmonton's starter during the 2007-08 season before losing his job to Dwayne Roloson
Sabourin, 28, is 6-8-2 with a 2.85 GAA and .898 save percentage during the 2008-09 NHL campaign.
Penguins starter Marc-Andre Fleury is having an average season — 14-11-2 record with a 2.94 GAA — and the hope in Pittsburgh is that the addition of Garon can give Fleury a bit of a push.

Not sure if I agree with this trade very much. I dont think its Fluery that needs pushed, I think its the defensemen.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
i don't mind that trade... stone's not that good and if fluery gets injured again i'd rather have curry as my starter than sabu.

Re: What wrong with the Pen's?
Important game tomorrow. A tough 4 game stretch with Philly (W), Caps (L), Ducks (W), and tomorrow the Rags. If the Pens can get 6 points out of that stretch without about half of their roster it would be a confidence boost and could get them into a winning streak.
