2010 Top Recruiting Classes

Post by deliverance »

Rivals has released their first rankings for the top recruiting classes in 2010 to this point. Texas comes in at #1 and PSU is as #8. It looks like PSU has a legitimate shot to finish in the top 5.

I doubt it. They took a star away from Kenney (explain to me how this happens before the season starts, without an injury which in itself is a bull**** excuse, please) and they have Haplea as a 3* on Rivals. Tell me if this kid is a 3* recruit.

Florida State
LSU
OU
Penn State
Pittsburgh
North Carolina
West Virginia
Wisconsin
N.C. State
Clemson
Purdue
Rutgers
South Carolina
Syracuse
Tennessee
Louisville
Miami
Michigan State

They need to bring in about 15 4* recruits out of probably 19 in order to sniff the top 5 on Rivals. On Scout I think they will be tested, but might get it.

That is true, TAE. I know Texas will not finish #1 because they are only going to get 2-3 more kids and the chances are not very high that any of them will be a 5-star. They will be lucky to finish in the top 5. I wasn't sure who all PSU still had left on their radar, so if it's only a few more kids that are 3 stars, then they won't finish in the top 5. However, a top 10 finish is still a quality recruiting class. It's always nice to have the best recruiting class in your conference.

A lot will depend if they can get Sharif Floyd or Marcus Lattimore. Both these players are 5* recruits on both sites. If PSU gets one of these guys they will be in the top 5 or around it. IMO, If they can get both they will be very, very close to the top.

I have a few PSU recruiting questions for anyone that may have heard anything:

1. A while ago I heard Khairi Fortt was all but a lock to commit and even heard he was about to commit and he even gave PSU a verbal already. Is PSU still in the lead or is there an issue here?

2. Zach Zwinak was at one time a PSU/VT battle. Still the case?

3. I know PSU wants Anthony Gonzalez as a safety but are they still heavily recruiting him. I watched some video on this kid and he looked every bit as good as Bolden and Jones. He is crazy fast and he plays at a AAAA school in PA so its not like he isnt playing against quality competition. I just would like to have an athlete like that on the team and hell give him a shot at the QB position.

1. Fortt is still a PSU lean but wants to take his visits. He has Haplea and Redd pestering him constantly to commit already and get it over with. Haplea has been on his case for over a month. Redd for a lot longer.

2. Zwinak wants to be the feature back wherever he ends up. That won't happen at PSU or VTech but Tech lies to recruits about giving them legit shots at whatever position they prefer, despite having no intention of placing him at that position. Which brings me to...

3. Gonzalez. He is considered an FSU lean but I'm not sure they want him as a QB. The only school who wants him as a QB is Pitt, who let's kids pick what position they want to play. Anthony Gonzalez has been told by colleges that his future is in the secondary and he doesn't want to hear it. PSU is all but done with him. I personally do not think he is anywhere close to being as good as Bolden or Jones. He's definitely fast though. I think he ends up at Pitt.

Zwinak is someone I would love to see us get because the FB position is the most underrated position on the field. Especially, if the FB can pass block and catch out of the backfield.

Have you watched any videos of Gonzalez? He was AAAA player of the year as a Junior. I'm really hope PSU can convince this kid he is playing secondary in college and get him on this team.

I want Zwinak, too, but... I doubt it.

To be honest, I dont think Penn State is even actively pursuing Gonzalez anymore. They have better Safety prospects on their board, at this point.

The kid to keep an eye on is RB Corey Brown. Brown is considered by some to be the best prospect in PA. He got injured last season and in classic Rivals fashion, that means the kid is terrible at football and will be in a wheelchair the rest of his life. Unbelievable. He fell off everyone's radar completely, despite being back to 100% now. I personally think the kid was always overrated, but he has an impressive offers list. He initially was "too cool for school" and said he was going somewhere far away to school, but the weird thing is that both Alabama and Florida (2 of his finalists) have both picked up solid RBs in this recruiting class. So has Penn State, who strangely is still in Brown's top list despite limited contact from the staff. This kid might end up without a home pretty soon. My guess: Rutgers ends up with him.
