Can someone give a Pitt preview?

Post by The Ancient Enemy »

If Baldwin is playing, I think ptt will have the best WRs in the conference, and even with the loss of McCoy they probably still have the best offense overall. The kids on the o-line were highly regarded recruits (no PSU offers, though heh heh heh) and are maybe the league's best. Nix impresses me a lot.

QB though... it doesn't matter how good your nukes are if you don't have a delivery system. Ask North Korea and Iran. Stull is decent, but I'm real leary of that kid.

Defensively, should be the best D in the BE, hands down. I like Phil Bennett a lot, he's really, really nice and loves his players and I hope he has success after the crap he went through down here (SMU). Romeus is a very good player, but I am unsure who the MLB is now that McKillop is gone. The MLB spot at Pitt is a very important position in that defense, and they have had a lot of good ones over the last decade or so.

I'm worried about the secondary as well.

See, I have a vested interest in Pitt as a PSU fan. I want Pitt to win 9 games a season so they act as a buffer w/ OSU and Michigan. By no means do I want Pitt to ever go undefeated or win more than 9 or win the BE, but I think that if Stull is competent and the defense plays as well as they should, Pitt wins the BE this season hands down. Now, as far as that auto BCS bid... They're gonna get killed no matter who they play.

Pitt in the best possible way i can describe them.

They say if you have 2 QB's you have NO QB's. Stull has been named the starter but recently its been said Tino will push forplaying time. Tino was the best in camp at times in reports but they chose Stull?
Billy played alright at times but any sign of how he played aginst Oregon State and Notre Dame, the Tino cries will be heard soon enough. PB redshirt apparently. who cares

A position they feel strong about is the Backs. although any player making a significant contribution will be a freshmen. Hynoski is the FB after having one of the most prolific careers is PA HS football history. I'd like to see them incorporate him in goal line situation. Maybe this Cignetti guys a little more creative. Dion Lewis and ray Graham both true frosh from Jersey are going to get the carries. DL impressed in the Spring while RG had a big fall camp. Chris Burns will play some too.

Baldwin has the potential to be a great Wideout. He needs to work on route running but raw talent hes impressive. Ced McGee and Oderick Turner are the other wideouts both arent terrible but usually inconsistent. Byham is a great talent at TE great athlete reminds me a little of Todd Heap maybe? Him and Dickerson will get he majority of the time.DD needs to step up..Cruz is third and will probably see his chances on the goal line.

Now this OLIne has all big time recruits, all the starters were 4 star recruits. Hopefully Nix will live up to the hype. Pinkstons their top linemen. Jacobson will get time off the bench as well. I'd say thats a relative strength of this team.

Not many Defensive lines in the country are as good as this one. Romeus and Sheard both are great athletes amd future pros. Mick Williams has gotten much better through the years and is definatley up for all Big East. Lots of depth at end.

LB play has been picking up through the years from HB to McKillop. Its Adam Gunn's turn to be a solid MLB. Williams is young and is raw after switching from RB but hes a good athlete.Murray adds some depth. Expect BIG things from true freshmen Dan Mason.

Secondary is suspect. Decicco is a good player and built like an OLB. Fields is a great athlete but lisnt the smartest player. Taglianetti is undersized but will play. Chappel and Berry are back both played well at times then their was the Rutgers game. Reed and and Ricky Gary will see lots of time too.

Return game, Reed and Cam Saddler are doing kickoffs. Cam should be exciting. Thank god Aaron Berry isnt fielding punts anymore...Aaron Smith is the listed starter hopefully he can get some things going.

Pitt can really block kicks since wanny came back hopefully thatll continue.

Nov. 7, 2009 Syracuse

Dec. 5, 2009 Cincinnati

I don't see why they cant go 10-2 with this schedule. But knowing Pitt theyll lose some stupidd game. 9-3. is my call loses coming to Rutgers ND and WVU.

trip to the Sun Gator or Meinke Car Care sound about right.

Realisticly there isnt one team that should beat Pitt flat out. All 12 are winnable. Doubtful they will pull that off. BCS game certainly is withing reach its a league up for the taking. Maybe at 9-3 even. more then likely 10-2 should win the confrence.

And with the automatic BCS bid you say theyll get crushed...maybe not. it will take them to Miami with an ACC team. The ACC isnt a very scary league anymore. Va Techs the best they got and a Walt Harris led Pitt team can beat Frank Beamer surely Wanny could do it if the sitation arose.

ACC is alot better than you think.

That NC State game is huge for Pitt.

I forgot about Bynam and Hynoski. PSU lost the war for Bynam, and did not chase Hynoski despite him saying in public that he wanted to go to PSU. Was very irritated they did not chase him. I loved Hynoski in HS.

That defense has a lot of potential. Has everyone given up on Bostick as a QB?

All Pitt fans will hold you to what you said about the ACC being good, when Pitt beats NC State. You can't go back and say "well the ACC is down this year"! :P

Good breakdowns AE & Craze, this is Wanny's 5th year and I think it is his deepest, fastest, most skilled squad for sure......there is one big BUT though: our qb is a stiff! I think Wanny's blind side is on the offensive side of the ball (remember, he coached the 'D' @ the U (Miami for the rest of us in the normal world) and won a natl' title....he ran the D for Jimmy Johnson then @ Dallas & they won a Super Bowl. Did he not watch film of Pitt's bowl game?? Bill S. shat the bed badly and has not played well in a big game EVER. (Bostick directed w's over WVU & ND) and from several players this year "Sunseri was/is clearly the better qb" My fear is that we win our first 3 then go to N. C. St. & ole Billy Boy (as TAE forecasts) will pull a Joepa (PTP*)....again! My hope is Sunseri would get to play half of the 1st 3 contests regardless of score & shows what he can do. So, if Stull starts a game like 3 - 14, as he is prone to do, U get the Hook out & put in the red-shirt frosh. Believe me, our qb play cannot get any worse than it has been the last 2 years!

I didn't say Pitt couldn't beat NCSU, I'm just saying there's teams in the ACC better than you think they are. NCSU is supposedly one of the "darkhorse" teams for 2009.

I hear ya but I can see it it coming if Wanny leaves all the eggs in Stull's basket.

And the ACC overall kinda had to improve: Miami has been down, FSU has been down; V Tech down by their standards....both N. Carolina squads improving, GT w/a fantastic coach now (Vmans team to watch in '09), WF has been very tough last few & Clemson, well they are Clemson & should have a better yr this yr.& BC is steady.......That's 9 good teams by my estimation :!:

yeah i didnt mean to make it look like i didnt think the ACC was good but there isnt an outstanding team. a lot of really good teams no real big national title contenders. a pretty even league like the Big East.

I hope to make the trip to Raleigh this year should be a fun one. That is a huge game.

Pat Bostick is being redshirted and i dont ever see him ever playing again. rumors on Pitt's scout website say Paul Jones is still looking at Pitt.(his top wideout Carswell is a Pitt commit) But i wouldnt count on that. But that Gonzalez kid from Liberty can really play and i hope they can bring him in. But really the job is Suneri's next year. Hes the QB of the future and i dont understand why Bostick wont just transfer already?

I cant wait to see that defense play.

Well from what veeman says, you'll see that defense on the field quite a bit. So you should be more than satisfied.

I honestly would not be surprised if Paul Jones ultimately ended up at Pitt. With and Newsome and Bolden on the same roster, one of those kids is going to end up transferring. Being dead serious: Paul Jones is the one who does not fit the new system. He's a drop-back passer.
