By the same token, schools have to WANT TO TAKE KIDS IN. After all, schools can REFUSE to accept kids also. This is where the problem lies with athletics, especially when your football coach also is in charge of admittance. Take McCort for example. Isn't Salem the least bit suspicious when a veteran high school athlete comes to McCort as an UPPERCLASSMAN and wants to be admitted?

I wouldn't know, I'm not coach Salem. Are you sure that he personally oversees admissions, or are they handled by other members of the administration? I know that students transferring from schools outside the parochial system are subject to interviews. But like you said, the school has the right to refuse admittance to whomever they choose.

So if they have ANY inking that the kid transferring is doing so for athletic reason ( which is against PIAA regulations ), then why don't they ever say NO? Wouldn't a religious school try to be on the up and up, and not aid and abett the transferring of a veteran athlete, who is an upperclassman, to their school so that the student can improve his high school sports status?

Who's to say they don't turn kids away, when in fact they probably do? Ask some of the District 6 committee members why all the eligibility hearings are usually passed unopposed. The committee has to approve the transfer before the kids can be allowed to play, so it's not all on the private school's shoulders. I don't know why they tabled Julock, personally I thought that was a load of BS, but I'm not on the committee.

Knowitall, you are absolutely correct. If the parent has the money and is willing to pay the TUITION and the child qualifies under the RULES, then that child will not be denied acceptance. Why should they be?

If I live in the Richland school district and I have the money and am willing to pay the TUITION to Johnstown High School and my child qualiifies under the RULES, do you think Johnstown will deny my child acceptance. I would think that any school would be foolish to turn down the $6k - $7k. Oh yea, and if my kid happens to be a good athlete - extra bonus. Bottom line = TUITION, RULES

Haven't been following this endless topic for awhile, but FYI: The FH kid who's family moved into the Portage district last year, still -OWN- the farm they lived on in the FH district. If I "owned" a property in Pebble Beach, Calif., I could well legally claim I "lived" there since I owned it, couldn't I? The K boys and friends can be seen on the "old" family homestead almost any night or day, still farming the property.
It ain't over until it's over.

Are you saying that he should still be at FH and NOT Portage???? What if a couple is divorced and both have joint custody of a child and each parent lives in a different school district? What school does HE attend???

boi, I'm confused......it was clearly stated on here (so it must be true) that he lived in Portage last yr. & was 'using ' grandmas address; which was then confirmed by someone in the know @ Portage. He probably thought fh had best chance to do well in playoffs last yr.& know sees Portage is loaded this yr so he'll play where he lives now. How can Donbo condone this illegality?
