The bottom teams in D6

Post by spin »

We pretty much know the tops teams in D6 for the girls and boys. What about the bottom dwellers? Are there any teams that will improve or move up with some incoming talent, or are they left to suffer at the bottom of the list paying uncompetitive basketball?

Yeah, I think we should probably define the better teams before we call out the bad ones.

Like a light switch- either on or off. If you identify the better teams, doesn't that by logic define all the others as well?

I think what spin might be trying to say is in previous threads many of us have already discussed who we thought was going to be the top teams. I don’t like the term bottom dwellers, every program does their best. Not everyone can be like BG and take in a bunch of transfers so the public schools do the best they can with what they have. I will talk strictly about the girls side because that is what I see the most.

AAAA (toss up)

1 State College
2 Hollidaysburg
3 Altoona
4 Mifflin County

AAA (top two better than others)

1 Johnstown
2 Forest Hills
3 Bellefonte
4 Huntingdon
5 Somerset

AA (my top two have flip flopped many times. After top two numbers 3 through 9 will battle for all those spots and have nice teams. Mt Union could be sleeper.)

1 Bellwood
2 Bishop McCort
3 Westmont
4 Penns Valley
5 Juniata
6 Penn Cambria
7 Tyrone
8 Central
9 Marion Center
10 Central Cambria
11 Mount Union
12 Ligonier Valley
13 Bald Eagle

A (top two are set. Williamsburg and JV might surprise)

1 BG
2 Blairsville
3 Bishop Carroll
4 Claysburg
5 Portage
6 Williamsburg
7 Juniata Valley
8 United

I agree maybe bottom dwellers was NOT the correct wording. I think there is enough knowledge of the successful programs that if you group them everyone would come close to having the same teams. Since the girls were listed here are some teams that have struggled lately and is there any opportunity for them to improve this year or over the next few years. I would expect they are all great kids and the coaching staffs work with them the best that they can. Since I do not know what they have for this year or in their programs coming up I was wondering if there is a surprise coming.

Blacklick
Cambria Hgts
Ferndale
Harmony
Richland
Saltsburg
Somerset
United
Glendale
Northern Cambria
Purchase Line

This doesn't cover them all but it a pretty good list.

The bottom teams in D6

Richland is the defending D6AA champions. They'll be down this year, but they aren't always down.

Somerset won AAA last year and they have been pretty good for a few years now. They have the best backcourt locally.

Ferndale actually has one of the best players in the area in Ray Hinton, they might be OK this year.

Not expecting a whole lot from the other teams.
