should we want the bcs rankings back?
I love a playoff concept but this committee is mindblowingly bad. Florida state is the undefeated national champion, only undefeated from a power conference, and they are #4??? This guys are proving why humans mess the system up more than machines

The only factors that should matter are overall record, head to head, strength of schedule, and conference championships. Who cares how much you beat teams by. A win is a win.

This would be the worst year ever for the BCS. For people that complain about FSU dropping, I understand the criticism but the fact is if they beat GT Saturday, they're in. If the BCS was still in place this year, FSU would probably for sure be in because of their undefeated record, but the majority of people would think they don't deserve to be in. If it was FSU vs. Bama, Oregon fans would have a huge reason to feel slighted because many believe they are one of the best two teams. Personally, I believe that 1 or 2 of the top 6 teams will lose this weekend. Even then, somebody will probably feel like they're left out, but FSU has to reason to worry if they win.

If you want the committee to just look at records and automatically put FSU at 1 because they are the only undefeated then yes you would want the BCS back because that's what it did. Now if you want someone to actually watch the games and pick out who they think are the 4 best teams and rank them then the committee is doing what they are supposed to do. Does anyone who actually watches these teams play actually think Florida State is better than Alabama and Oregon? I have watched FSU struggle mightily with teams like Notre Dame, Miami, and Boston College with 2 of the 3 being at home. Yes all teams have had a game or two where they have struggled but FSU does it almost every single week. I completely understand why the committee ranks them where they do. It doesn't matter that they are the defending champs, this is a completely different team. For FSU fans before they get all upset, as long as they beat Georgia Tech this week they will be in, so in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter if they are ranked 1 or 4 at this point. I'm actually glad the committee watches games and picks out who they think are the best teams instead of blinding throwing teams down on a piece of paper in order of what their records are.

If I had to rank who I thought the best four teams were, FSU would not be one of them. If I had to pick four teams that deserved to be in the playoffs they would be the 1 seed.

Well said. The committee has said all along they want the 4 best teams, so it's hard to argue with their rankings based on that.

I just don't like the idea of a group of people choosing who gets to go. I would prefer more of a set guideline. When they move it to 8 teams, which from what I understand they plan to do so, I think the power 5 conference champions should get an automattic bid and the committee would decide the next three teams in. Then they could seed those 8 teams by whoever they think is the best. That way every conference would have at least a chance and it makes winning your conference worth more.
Re: should we want the bcs rankings back?
Eliminate dumb conference championship games and have this week as "Round 1". Losers could still go to another bowl then. Top 4 as voted get a bye. 8 others play a "wild card" game this weekend.
After that, I'd do something I think would be awesome.
You have 8 teams left and they randomly pull matchups in a lottery system. That would be a great hour long program.

Re: should we want the bcs rankings back?
D2&3 have had full playoffs for years. Greed is only reason d1 don't. The bowl season starts the 2 or3 rd weekend in Dec and runs into second week of Jan. now. Easily fit 16 team playoff into bowls. $$$ says probably won't. I want to know who decided on wjo was on the committee? Yes there are former coaches on there, but there's also actors and former poloticians. Why are THEY deciding this?

The only rankings that matter come out on Sunday, so we'll see what happens.
