2016 Legion
None of the legion teams can compete with bedford or claysburg legion. That's just how it is

Re: 2016 Legion
Thank you. I've made my stand quite plain on this subject, and the reasons why, the past few seasons. Nothing has changed, except for the lesser teams being fewer in number.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: 2016 Legion
DH today, Saints over Cernic's 10-0 in 6. 2nd game, strangest game I ever saw. Cernic leading 13-3 after 3 innings. Saints score 19 runs to make it 22-13, then the game winner in the 5th. Not much pitching available from either team.
It ain't over until it's over.

Claysburg Legion- Claysburg, Central, Williamsburg, Hollidaysburg.
Bedford Legion- Bedford, Northern Bedford, Chestnut Ridge, Everett,
Somerset Legion- Somerset, North Star, Meyersdale, Rockwood, Turkeyfoot Valley, Conemaugh Twp. , Stoystown..
Lilly- Penn Cambria
St. Michael's- Forest Hills.
Ebensburg- Central Cambria
Cernic's- CV, Jtown
Richland- Richland
Patton- Cambria Heights, NC.
Yes, we know why they are the cream of the crop when the big 3 draw from a combined 15 schools and the other 6 roughly about 7-8.

Re: 2016 Legion
Just to be clear for some of you who like throwing facts out there that are unfounded and not exact.....
Patton actually draws from Cambria Heights, Northern Cambria, Glendale and Harmony
Richland has Richland, Westmont, Windber and a boy from Somerset this year that was granted a release
Cernics has Johnstown, Conemaugh Valley, Westmont, Bishop McCort and i believe a ligonier Valley kid last year.
Ebensburg has Central Cambria, Bishop Carroll, Blacklick Valley, and a few players from Portage this year
St Michael has just Forest Hills
Lilly Has Penn Cambria, a boy from Bishop Carroll and a player from Portage
Somerset has Somerset, Meyersdale and Rockwood. They dont have Con. Twp, Stoystown or NOrth Star, those players and zoned to Stoystown as they paid their franchise fee and the only way they can play is go to an area that has had their tryouts and not had enough kids show to fill their roster. Then those boys have to play for closest team to their home residence that has openings.
Bedford has Bedford, Everett, Northern Bedford, Chestnut Ridge and Harmony
Claysburg has Claysburg , Williamsburg, Central and Tussey Mnt. and this year they have a boy from Hollidaysburg.
Is it a level playing field for St. Michael.... Heck no but they had teams not that long ago just raked in this league. The problem is that outside of cambria.... our teams are small in comparison to other leagues. Community baseball has become a thing of the past... There are too many other options..... travel ball, colt league, teener leagues... etc. etc. etc. The real problem in our league is that some of these teams are able to draw there best talent and other teams arent always able to do that anymore for whatever reason... These travel leagues are nice if u are talking about kids who are D1, D2 talent and trying to get seen and earn scholarships but you have every parent under the sun spending thousand upon thousands of dollars for kids who are marginal to even make a D3 roster where there are no scholarships or money available... heck one team even had a 14 year old and their parent pressure a coach for a commitment that this child would be guaranteed a starting spot for them to sign and when the coach said no way... he chose not to sign and play elsewhere.... Now u tell me... is the problem some of the teams or is the problem society anymore and many with the attitude that if i am not gonna start, i am not gonna play. It wasnt that way 10-15 years ago but it sure is now in most places.

ab-so-lutely!
Re: 2016 Legion
deerslayer, you improperly said Harmony with Bedford. You should have said Hyndman.
St. Michael has held their own for years. Some feast, some famine. Most of the FH kids stay 'at home', but when the top 2 or 3 choose to play in Johnstown, then the caliber of the team over-all is reduced. Due to its geography, they can't draw from any other nearby districts, and I believe the rule is correct, that if enough "local" kids try out, there is no way for a kid from say Portage, Windber, or BCCHS to make the team. The beat goes on.

Lilly is in the same boat as St. Michael in my opinion. I didn't count BC because the kid that plays live in PC school district and if Portage had a Legion team he wouldn't be playing for Lilly.. All the other teams can get the pick of the litter if the AAABA doesn't snag them away with all the perks they offer..

Re: 2016 Legion
Travel baseball and the Flood City "Elite" are killing legion baseball in our area. It's just a fact. Parents think that because their kids is on a FC"E" team they will get noticed. Those parents are wrong. Being talented will get your son noticed. And FC"E" could care less about how good a kid is, they only want the money that comes with them.
