The coop rule would be hard to apply to private(parochial) schools. If you added up all the enrollments of schools that they recruit from it would probably make them all AAAA. Doesn't bother me but if BG takes one kid from Altoona their enrollment is added to BG. Makes BG enrollment larger than Altoona! The only fair solution in my opinion is to give private schools their own classification level or levels. For example in football keep the current four classes for public schools and add two more for private schools. The same formula could be followed for all sports.
I'm surprised that the PIAA doesn't go for this because it would add more playoff and championship games to add to their coffers! There must be some very influential politicans that keep the PIAA in their pocket. That's how the privates got in the first place by buying off the politicans in Harrisburg.

wow, where to start?
southpaw, i guess ill start with you: generally, it is easier for a team to "mesh" when the kids have all been playing together for a while. being able to have team unity from day one can be very important to a program's success. think about it...if everyone was arguing all the time or didnt know what style of ball the others played, wouldnt that make it harder? the reason college and pro teams dont have to worry about this is because by that stage in their life, the players should be mature enough to get over their differences and if theyre good enough to make it to that level, then they should be able to adjust alot easier.
now on to tubmil,
the reason the private schools are not listed as co-op is because every athelete that plays at that school is ENROLLED in that school, the reason certain schools must become a coop is because the students that participate in the given sport are not enrolled there. therefore the athelete's entire school is counted as part of the host schools classifications. if the private schools allowed students from other schools that are not enrolled in said private school, then they too would have to be considered coop.
and personally i wouldnt know where to begin on how to beat bishop carrol. i was a kicker for half a year...that is the only involvement i have ever had with football, and that is why i will never be a coach. but i do know that it can be done, and it can be done by a class A school as well. if i remember correctly, Carroll lost at hershey did they not? which brings up another point, So. Columbia is a public school, and looky there, they have how many state titles and trips to hershey? is it possible that with hardwork and good coaching a public school can beat a private???? such a thing is unheard of!!

Ok. this solves all the problems..first with gunner...he is wrong about the whole playing with each other for ever thing..sure it helps for a while, but in one year, everyone is equal. or even in 3 weeks of constant prac people work well with each other. Talent eventually wins out no matter what...that is why private schools win all the time.
The ideal way to get it fair, would be to have an A private school play AA teams. add one size to their school. this would at least give private schools a chance to loose once in a while..but then again, if im not mistaken Johnstown is a AAA school and they still lost to BC..so i guess my theory doesnt hold for everything

no it wouldnt work ct because adding size to the school doesnt change talent and skill, if the kids in the A school were all recruited there still gonna be better than a AA school or even possibly a AAA school, the only way to solve this is for the private schools to have their own league, atleast thats the only way i can see it working

THE ONLY REPLY ANYONE SHOULD MAKE WHO OPPOSES PRIVATES VS. PUBLICS FROM HERE ON OUT!!!!
Bishop Guilfoyle BEAT Altoona. Just type that...This is the same BG that Williamsburg would have to beat to win a district championship. END OF STORY!

Read some of the htread but not all of it. BC does by no means dominate the LHAC and never will. The big dog in the LHAC is Forest Hills, always has been always will be. Since they win it nearly every year, should the rest of the LHAC take their ball and go home and form their own conference without FH? No, it woulnd't be right. BC has won the conference 1 time in their time in it and people are talking like they're having a Windber type run.
I think it is great that D-5a has their own playoff, more power to them. I'm happy for the kids that will finally get to hoist a trophy of their own.

It's not about winning the LHAC...
That conference is the level of competition the Carroll's and BG's should ALWAYS be against in the PLAYOFFS! They should not be in our single A level...no way no how. They are the only A team in the LHAC and did win it this year. Over VERY, VERY good teams. The LHAC is their level of competition with bigger schools, but Single A is not where they should be competiting come playoff team when teams want to win a district championship....

well put coach. but back to the original question asked...Whos gonna win the new D5??Coming into this year, CT lost a lot of its starters with the 02-03 class, and our most of our team would be new starters..This year, the majority of the people who played are seniors, and CT did great. we should have had an undeafeated season. Next year, a whole new crop of kids playing, I would say the team will not do very good, like i did this year, but they suprised me..But i dont have much faith in our squad for next season, I look for Berlin to take West Pac. not sure about D5. cause of whos all in it...but berlin will be better then people make them out to be.

gunner,
I know the reason that you stated is why the PIAA doesn't consider the private schools coop. That still doesn't make it right. Ligonier had one Laurel Valley kid on their soccer team and had to include the enrollment of both schools. That is no different than BC enrolling student from 5 or 6 school districts.
What is the worst finish that BC has had in the LHAC? Name another public Class A school that could compete at that level and finish in the top three of that conference every year? Please don't give me the hardwork and dedication baloney that the private school supporters spew every time this subject comes up. Laurel Valley football has kids that work as hard and are as dedicated as any team in the area along with an excellent coaching staff. They have had only two losing seasons in the last 25 years. They might have a good season in the LHAC every 3 - 5 years, but definitely couldn't compete consistently as BC is doing. There is not a Class "A" school in this area that could!
The Heritage conference was ridiculed for not including BC in their new conference, but you didn't see one other small school conference jumping to provide the Huskies with a home. Where was the Appalachian South? Where was the ICC? The Heritage people knew that the private school particpation under the present setup was a joke and tried to do something about it. The LHAC just didn't cooperate.
Sports999,
You said it wouldn't be fair for BG to compete at the Quad A level, yet they are able to beat Altoona. BC often has 50 - 60 football players on their roster, more than many AAAA schools in the area, yet they sport a puny band. Something just seems out of whack here.
