Idc if they recruit or not when it comes to state playoffs since I always wanna see D6/D5 go far no matter what school. It’s the people who say we don’t recruit at all that piss people off that try rooting for them. Everyone knows the privates recruit, they are allowed. So be it the system is flawed and not getting fixed anytime soon. Best thing to do if you want your kid to be on a state playoff team is to transfer them to a private.

The following is from maxpreps, it may not be 100% but pretty accurate I would guess.

2011  Record 1-8 Roster Size:  38 (Wheeler's first season)
6 Seniors
10 Juniors
10 Sophomores
12 Freshman (This would be the senior class of the first title in 2014)

2012  9-3 Roster Size: 40
14 Seniors +4 Picked up 4 playrs in this class in one year
9 Juniors -1
9 Sophs -1
8 Frosh

2013 10-3  Roster: 44
10 Seniors +1
11 Juniors +2
11 Sophs +3
12 Frosh

2014  16-0 Roster: 47
11  Seniors (lost 3 of the freshman class of 2011 picked up 2 OL 6'1 270lbs and 6'0 275 lbs and a TE 6'5 200lbs)
9 Juniors -1
15 Sophomores +3
12 Freshman (This years Senior Class)

Fast forward to 2017 (will be 16-0) Roster: 55
9 of the original 12 Freshman remain from from 2014.  Added to this year's senior class of 15 in the past 3 years:

6'4 WR/ DB
6'2 DE/ TE
6'2 210 DE (Senior transfer)
6'0 WR/DB
6'1 208 lb LB/ RB
6'4 314 lb OL

To put that in perspective Homer has 5 kids on their entire roster 6-2 or better.  BG added 5 players 6'1 or better to one class in three years and has 13 players 6'2 or better on their roster.

There are 18 juniors and 15 Freshman on the 2017 roster, the Sophomore class only has 6, look for that class to pick up at least 4 more this off-season.

Of the 2 senior classes I've highlighted (2014 and 2017)  8 players joined the program after their freshman year.   I picked the first Freshman class and the most recent, perhaps these are the only two years that players were added  that look like 3A kids.  Or maybe these kids were just roaming the halls and someone said "hey you're 6'1 208lbs and run a 4.7 40, why don't you try football"

OL-  6'4 314lbs
OL-  6'1 270lbs
OL-  6'0 275lbs
DE-  6'2 203lbs
DE-  6'2 208lbs
LB-  6'1 208lbs
TE-  6'5 200lbs
WR/ DB- 6'0 170lbs

Oh well.  Should be a great game this weekend.
This exactly... But itll be shot down by someone here even though its 100% factual
Now forgive me but I don’t remember the exact names of everyone but most of these kids were either one sport athletes who decided to play football once the team experienced success

This is simply untrue. My cousin was on that team and there was atleast 1 or 2 linemen who transferred in that year or the year before.
2014 starting line: Leamer, Berger, Coyler, Wolfe, and Luther, no transfers, mcgeary transferred that year, and was a freshman, didn't play
I think the point is being missed. BG admittedly has players on the team that live in 8 different school districts. It makes no difference if they transfered or came thru the parochial system since first grade... they still can have kids from 8 districts while public schools get one. That is an advantage....period. With that ability they should be playing at a higher level than Class A. Now...that said....you still have to work hard to get to where they are. Coach Wheeler and his staff do a fantastic job and I will be pulling for them to bring home the gold!

Also if he is playing now its a player who transfered in as a freshmen, not from BGs parachinal schools, who is starting now. Pulling talent from other school districts as a freshmen or a junior is no different.
Just going out on a limb here, but if I had to guess,  you never won anything,  and suffer from little man syndrome,  now that's worth -3!!!

Completely wrong they have kids from 8 districts that go to the school.  They in no way have that many districts on the team.  I believe that there are kids from 2 districts on the team which can be found at most any school in the state

Point is with a talented group of kids..plus a few added talents. Changes everything.
By the way, Do you think anyone in Portage would care who we’d play after finally getting out of D6...
So 2014 was a homegrown team 2015 was also homegrown except for Mcgeary who had been for all intents and purposes forced to quit football at Altoona. 2016 was also homegrown and so was 2017 except for sankey and speck who had various personal reasons for leaving previous schools.  Every school gets multiple kids who transfer in every year and contribute in one sport or another so I fail to see why we focus on BG so much

Actually I have won stuff but I see you must resort to name calling and putting others down.

Yea, I'm done. It's not that there's anything being done that's wrong. Recruit, pay kids to come play, do whatever. I don't care. Just don't say BG and HC are the same, minus hard work.
