PIAA eligibility
Sorry if this the wrong forum. I have two questions:
Under PIAA rules, are seniors allowed to participate in JV contests?
Are starters on Varsity teams allowed to play in JV contests?
Thanks in advance.

Re: PIAA eligibility
There are no regulations as to who can play in a JV game. Seniors and varsity starters are permitted to participate.

Re: PIAA eligibility
Especially if there aren't enough players to meet the JV standard.
It ain't over until it's over.

And it's not like it's Danny Almonte playing against 12 year olds when he was 14
Re: PIAA eligibility
Don't you risk injury if a varsity starter plays JV?

Yes. There's just no rule against it.El-Moldo wrote:Don't you risk injury if a varsity starter plays JV?

I also don't think there are JV championships so I don't think it really matters.
Re: PIAA eligibility
For many years Don Bailey would not play his starting QB on defense. WHY? Because he was too valuable to the team as a whole. Legal or not, why even consider playing varsity starters on a JV team? So let's play a varsity starter for 4 quarters on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon, and then make him play again on Monday afternoon. With overall numbers down on football teams, why risk your starters or your team. Let the second stringers play.

Re: PIAA eligibility
Don Bailey came up with the idea of not playing his QB on defense? That’s pretty innovative.
Re: PIAA eligibility
YOU know it wasn't HIS idea. Made sense though, didn't it? And if you don't let the JV players play in their own games, they stop going out for the team in the years to come. If they're not playing, they're gonna stay home or do something else.
