I just don't get the reasoning behind not wanting automatic ball and strike calls. Why is taking the human element out of the game bad when it's not a team member? It's not eliminating their jobs, they still have to be behind the plate to relay those calls and make other calls. If I were an MLB ump and was told there's tech that gets the call and you just announce then I'd be all for it. My job just got easier and I don't have half of the fans hating me.

Last night Chapman tossed a 4 pitch walk, all were strikes. 3 of four were touching with one fully in, so sure fringe calls. But again, does it matter when by definition they're all strikes anyways? Last week Grandal set up either inside or outside and ended up catching the ball pretty much down the middle and it was called a ball because the ump wasn't looking there. I guess he should have framed it better and pulled it back to a possible strike instead of down the middle, right?

Then I see some argument about the box not being accurate and it's a 3D shape not 2D! As far as I know it's far more accurate and reliable than some 50-70 year hunched over in one spot for three hours wiping the sweat from his eyes.

Why are some so against just getting the most basic function of the game right?

I know this is off the MLB umpiring topic.... I went to the Pirate/Card game tonight with my brother. Pirtates are so frustrating... I am tired of hearing about then making trades to make the playoffs.... They aren't ready ro compete for the playoffs. Way to many holes in their lineup. The one thing I expected to get was a good start and Keller left me down on that....lol.

I agree. Not time to sell the farm to finish below .500. If they want to spend some money do it this offseason and be set up for next year to make the big trade.

Can anybody explain to me what happened in the Pirates game yesterday? The Cards challenged the steal of third by Contreas and lost that challenge which meant they should not have any challenges left in he game. Yet they challenged the Palacious hit by pitch and won and challenged something else later in the game. I am not here saying the Pirates are losu=ing because of the umpires, I would just like to know what happened and if the umpires were wrong again, how can this happen?

I will say it again. How can a guy this bad calling balls and strikes keep his job?? There was FIVE balls thrown to Suwinski and he still didn't get his walk!! He then throws out Shelton because of his own ineptitude!!

The top of that little strike zone box is usually at the batters waist. Is that the official strike zone now? I thought it was mid-chest. I agree with getting rid if the box. It's probably not very accurate.
