2024 Legion Baseball
It's a shame the best team in the Legion League was penalized for having a successful highschool baseball season. Hollidaysburg maxed the highschool baseball season out this year. Playing up until June 14th in the state championship game..3 weeks after the Legion season started. I guess Bedford and St. Michael felt threatened and would lose to Hollidaysburg.
I don't know who makes the rules now but I know they make them up as they go along. St. Michael defeated Bedford to advance to the regional with Caysburg hosting. Is St.Michael the best team that advanced ? Definitely not..Hollidaysburg was punished for not playing enough games. Just like the rule that doesn't exist about players playing a certain amount of games to be eligible for the playoffs. .Years ago St. Michael had guys play in Johnstown all season and play 0,1 maybe 2 games in the Legion regular season but are there to play in the playoffs when they start.
I believe Hollidaysburg played 7 games and won 6. The league decides to put a 4 win team in the playoffs instead . Total joke!!!

You don't make the rules. Neither do I. Take it up with he who runs the league, Mr. Springer. So H #1 couldn't get a few more games in before the league playoffs? Every other team had the same number of days, weeks to get in their 15,16 game schedules. How many of the H#1 players were playing either Kelley or AAABA league ball in Altoona, or travel ball/ AAU? Thats why there is an 18 man roster, that in my opinion should be increased to 20 for next year. The Saints had 4-5 missing from dual rostering almost every game, leaving games to be played with kids that were half varsity, half JV, and a couple didn't even start JV. You run with what you brung.
It ain't over until it's over.

Legion baseball in general is sadly a joke. Travel ball has completely ruined it, but hey let’s waste our money paying stupid amounts of money to travel all over the country playing other mediocre players and teams. If only parents could wake up and go back to legit D1 prospects playing travel ball when they are in high school and everyone playing in local leagues. I just don’t ever seeing it happening. Daddy would rather brag about his son being on the 12th best 9u team in PA, even though they don’t even play in a tournament with all the other teams to actually figure that out.

I agree 100% Chris. I hear multiple parents at my workplace talking about their kids travel ball/AAU teams and where they are playing on the weekend. It's all just a money making scheme and parents are too dumb to realize it. There is no need for a kid to play baseball or basketball year round. And we wonder why so many kids are having severe injuries at a young age. If a player is good, colleges will find them at their local HS, regardless of how small the school is. Unfortunately, I don't think this trend of travel ball is going anywhere though.ChrisKentRam wrote: ↑July 21st, 2024, 11:08 pm Legion baseball in general is sadly a joke. Re: 2024 Legion Baseball
I was just thinking about this the other day. Talking to a parent in the gym he said they had baseball and basketball stuff they were doing. I'm like when did baseball and basketball take over all summer. It's crazy.

Travel Ball/AAU is a joke!
I laugh at the weekly declaration of "National" and "World" Championships these people claim they won
Anything to get parents to throw more money at these "coaches" that are actually recruiters/sales people trying to assemble an all star team and find a tournament they can win and claim they are "great" coaches.
I was in Maryland a few weeks ago and picked up a newspaper and saw multiple National Champions posted in AAU Basketball down there... how many "National Champions" can one nation have?? I thought all the Altoona/Johnstown teams were "National Champions"?
Pay to Play should be called Pay for a Trophy!!!
Wake up parents, if your kid is not 6'4" runs a 4.4 40 and can jump out of the gym.... they are not going D1.
The Good News.....Football Season starts in 1 week!

Re: 2024 Legion Baseball
As good as former FHHS/Martella's/Wake Forest/ PSU outfielder Adam Cecere is, he did not get drafted by anyone 2 weeks ago. I hope he gets a few try-outs with someone and gets picked up that way. Not to disparage in any way, but sometimes thats the way it is, and it should be a wake-up call to all kids that you know what, you just might not be the MLB star you think you should be.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: 2024 Legion Baseball
Well said, not taking anything away from Adam he had a great run but it just may not be good enough for the MLB.
I saw a video of Charles Barkley talking at a basketball camp and he asked how many of the kids thought they would play in the NBA. Almost all of them raised their hand. His reply, the fact is probably none of you will play in the NBA.
Play every sport you can in high school and enjoy the ride because the end is closer than you may think!
