MLB umpiring
If players get suspended for doing things wrong, then the first umpire needs suspended for his actions in the Pirates fame today. When he threw out Lowe after the home plate umpire disallowed the challenge, that was unprofessional. I’m sure Lowe said something, but in that situation you don’t eject him.

What did he say?

Re: MLB umpiring
I don’t know he was thrown out rounding first base on a fly out. There was a meeting between the first base umpire and the plate umpire over not allowing a pitch challenge. So I’m sure Lowe said something to the umpire as he rounded the base, but Lowe didn’t stop to shoe the guy, but was tossed anyhow, for the first time in his 9 year career. Umpire totally unprofessional.
Re: MLB umpiring
What did Lowe say? I'll determine the umpire's professionalism based on what Lowe said.
Re: MLB umpiring
They are professionals. They should be good at their job. Missing calls consistently is unacceptable. Missing calls then throwing out a player for a couple of words is even more unacceptable.
MLB umpires and their fragile egos wouldn't last 1 period of an NHL game.

Re: MLB umpiring
That is the what I was trying to point out. If players are held responsible for their actions then I think the umps ought to be held accountable for theirs. Not for missing calls, but their responses of ejecting someone because of their own mistakes.
Re: MLB umpiring
Yeah this isn't a little league tournament where the umpire is getting $20, along with a coke and hot dog from the concession stand. This is the big leagues. Everyone on or around the field should be performing at a big league level. Players, coaches, grounds crew, mascot, video board operator, and the umpires. If MLB wants to charge a family of 4 nearly a thousand dollars for a night out at the ballpark, then it is perfectly fine to expect a major league effort from the umpires. They are grown ups being compensated EXTREMELY well.
If you do miss a call, don't get your fragile little ego hurt and then eject someone for a few words.

So, what standards do you propose for local high schools or Legion or City League umps who get $75, $80 a game? Or more, for tournaments, etc.
It ain't over until it's over.
Re: MLB umpiring
I agree with the part of professional baseball everyone needs to be a pro. Some of the umps should get suspended when they suck. There are enough guys that want to ump pro ball that they won’t have any problem finding fill ins.
Also at any level of baseball from little league up to pro ball the umpires need to quit being so sensitive. A little chirping is part of the game. I will take complaints all day from a coach as long as he doesn’t cross the line to calling me terrible or cursing. Fans on the other hand get one warning and they are gone. Should happen more in my opinion. If you didn’t volunteer to ump or coach I’m not taking any flack from you.

I agree with you, Lee.
