Re: Science kicks a field goal
TAE, God loves everyone...not just His Christians. That wouldn't make sense if He hated people that weren't His because then why would more people want to be a follower? If I thought that God hated everyone who didn't follow Him, then I probably wouldn't want to be with someone like that forever. But, following Him has it's rewards...things like...heaven for example. You can choose not to follow God...He gave everyone that choice, but if you don't follow Him and you find out you're wrong and He does exist...then you're going to have to deal with the consequences. I'm not saying you are wrong TAE, but there's always that chance you know? Who knows, I could be wrong...I don't think I am, but I won't find out until I die. As will everyone..

Re: Science kicks a field goal
I think my "deductive reasoning" is correct. Here it is again: 1) once a runner said that he does not take the Bible literally, that it's contents did not happen word for word. 2) That means that he believes that parts of the Bible are NOT true, did not happen. 3) If this is the case, he must believe that parts of the Bible then are made up, just stories. 4) Therefore he must somehow decide which are true, and which are made up. 5) Therefore, since he has NO proof of which are true and which are not, he must be guessing which parts are true, and which are false, the so-called picking and choosing. How's that for reasoning??? HE'S PICKING AND CHOOSING!!!... So what if he guesses wrong. What if he guesses that Christ rising from the dead was a story. What if he guesses that the Ten Commandments were only suggestions? What if he guesses that the Virgin birth did not happen as written? Could he be backsliding? Drifting away from the message of God?...I'll tell you what. If once a runner tells me how he can tell a story from the truth; if he can tell me how he can judge what in the Bible is true, and what never happened with 100% certainty, then I'll tell him whether or not he is doomed for not taking the Bible literally.

Way to play God Moldo. I like how you pass judgement on people. Isn't there something in the Bible that says you shouldn't do that?

I did go to both sites. The dino link is a shop. Wahoo! I'm not going to buy a book to further this conversation. The other one has many essays, most of which are in PDF format (which is annoying to open), and of which, many don't have much pertinence. If you saw something interesting, post it here please.

Why do you think I'm playing God? Who am I judging? Once a runner wanted to know if not taking the Bible literally would doom him. I'll tell him the answer if he tells me what criteria he uses to determine which Bible stories are true, and which are just made-up stories. Does he flip a coin? Does he throw a dart and whatever it hits is true? Which is it? Whichever it is, isn't he worried that he'll guess wrong? Now if the Bible were true, hey, no guessing, right? No muss, no fuss!!

Yes. There is the ol' "Judge not lest ye be judged". But I don't consider what I'm saying a judgement of others. More like a warning to others. Now they can take it, or not. But I ain't judging!! It's like this: One day Bob's neighbor Ed invited him over to his house to see all the Christmas lights he had put up. It was like the freakin' Griswolds. Bob noticed that all the lights were plugged into one outlet. Realizing that this was dangerous, Bob told Ed about it. NOW, Ed could get mad, thinking that Bob was JUDGING him. Or Ed could see the error of his ways and thank Bob for the WARNING. Big difference how it is perceived, isn't it. Please take what I say as a warning, not a judging!!!

Moldo, I'll address your points....1) I didn't say I do not take the Bible literally....I said it doesn't matter to me if some of the OT stories are factual or not....it's the lesson that counts. 2) Parts of the Bible are made up, they are called the parables. A story that is used to teach a lesson. 3) You also have NO proof that is to what is and isn't true. The fact that you can't disprove a story, doesn't make it true.
I can't prove that if a story actually happened or is true. A story that was handed down from generation to generation before put in writing has a strong possibility of being embellished somewhere along the way.
Stories from Moses on were pretty much written by eyewitnesses who put the word in writing during their lifetimes. That would tell me that it's much more likely that those stories are accurate. That doesn't automatically make the OT stories wrong, but I still think the major message is the lesson they teach, not the history.
Now that I have explained my beliefs, you can tell me if I'm doomed or not.
