Crimson, you cant be further off on this one. Fanaca was a great decision by the Steelers just as Porter was a year ago. However, I can think many reasons why to pay Big Ben this money.

1) Who can replace him. Batch sucks and what proven quarterback can they go get any cheaper.
2) He won a super bowl on a team with less talent than O'Donnell, Stewart, Tomzak, and Maddox had
3) He is still very young
4) Second best QB rating in just his 4 season
5) He cuts down the number of sacks that the line should give up in about half
6) He gets the team plenty of that money back in Jersey and merchandise sells
7) He carried them through the playoffs the year they won the super bowl (Although only an average performance in the super bowl)
8- He is not going to get all the money anyways he will restructure his contract
9) Pro-Bowl in only 4 years
10) He just wins after that do numbers really matter

By the way, there is no way in hell Ben gets traded.
Name the last Pro Bowl QB to be traded. Name the last starter the Steelers traded. The only trade I can recall in recent memory is to get Alan Rossum from Atlanta last year. Trades rarely happen anymore in the NFL.

I dont know if I agree about Faneca being a good move. He's maybe the best lineman in the whole league, and he's obviously the best on your team, which is a line of bad players otherwise. I would have tried to keep him.

Yes, Ben is very good at improvisation and all that, but it starts in the trenches, as we all know. Was his contract even up?

first i never said a thing about faneca. second ben is not worth 12+ million a season there is no one who can honestly say he is. Im not saying get rid of him im just saying dont break the bank for an average to slightly above average qb. he is not in the top 2 or even four in the game night now. his rating is so good because his first two years he managed the game throwing on average less than 20 balls a game, for short yardage. Lets look at bens big games this year. First the ravens game, yes he looked good, but it was a against a team that didnt have a starting db play in the game. And to say that ben carried the steelers to the super bowl, come on now arent you missing probably the best dfense in the game that year.

As for Faneca, he wasn't staying with Steelers anyway. He wanted out, and he got his wish.

I can't "honestly say" that ANY football player should be worth 12 million a season. However, when you compare the salaries NFL QB's make today, I think this contract is in line.

Please name 4 better active QB's in the NFL. I can think of 2 - Manning and Brady. And when you look at the QB's, consider what they had to work with as far as O-line and WR's. I don't think anyone has done more with less than Roethlisberger did this year. Regardless, your opinion is your opinion. Doesn't sound like I'm going to change that and you won't change mine.

Here is some stats I put together for you for all QB's in 2007 that had at least 1,000 yards passing, sorted by QB Rating.

You see i find this of utmost importance. Manning and Brady makes less a year than ben does right. In turn their respective organizations are then able to surrounds these great players with other solid players who help to advance their teams cause. Are the steelers gonna be able to do this now that ben is living large. I saw no that is why i see this as a waste of money and just craziness. so while ben is living it up who are the steelers gonna be able to afford to help the team out? And if the he is gonna get a new deal in 4 years than just sign him to 4 years for and garuntee him 30 mill, save some cap room and some cash and reload your team. starting with the o and d lines.

And i got four, Manning, Brady, Girrad, Palmer, i know he had a tough year but he is better than ben,

I think a case can be made that without his improvisation skills, he's not even a top 15 quarterback.

He can go and say Roethlisberger is a flash in the pan, and then he goes and put FIRST YEAR STARTER David Girrard in a list ahead of Roethlisberger. Are you out of your mind?

Super Bowls

Brady, 3
Manning, 1
Roethlisberger, 1
Girrard, 0
Palmer, 0

Jury is out on Gerrard, but he sure played pretty well this season.

Palmer is better than Roethlisberger, fellas, come on now. I know you're pumped up about the Steelers, but let's be realistic. Either way though, I think we can all agree that without a line it doesn't matter who is back there. And is Ben going to restructure that deal to keep Holmes the way Manning did with Harrison? We'll see. From what I have gathered and heard about how Roethlisberger acts, he's one of the most selfish people in the league, and is a "butthole" to the fans. So I guess we'll see what happens, but I think this huge contract was nothing more than a response to the media who has been saying for years that Pittsburgh refuses to pay their top players. And as for players, Faneca is not the only one who spoke up.

Finally Ancient is the voice of reason. First Ben is a "butthole" to the fans. Girard may be young and untested but does he not remind you of ben his first year? He does now doesnt he. But hopefully in his second year he doesnt break his face on a sewer grate riding his crotch rocket around the southside like a jackass. you guys remeber the one who two years ago almost everyone in the burgh wanted rid of.
