From what ive heard... "not even 12 hours into the job and he was receiving threats to not only himself but also his family" Sad day when parents run high school football coaches off the team.

I just wanted to get this out there, yes sheehan did resign as head coach of westmont in one day, but many of these things people are hearing about are rumors. There were no threats to him and his family. Look at it this way, he is a parent of 3 all of which are under the age of 3. Maybe he realized that this would take away from spending time with his kids and wife. i think that is reason enough for not taking a coaching job which is basically a full time job granted how many dinner parties he would have to go on with parents. I mean he would probably even have to break down film with the parents of each kid. Maybe he didnt want to deal with the bull$hIt and knew what he was in for. but "As the Hilltop Turns," has takin another dramatic twist what will happen next. Stay tuned...

wouldnt one think of those things before applying for the position? It is odd for someone to just quit the next day unless there had been some sort of issue. I did not hear any rumors and i doubt he and his family were threatened, but wouldnt a guy who is going to coach high school football understand the time commitment before he applied? Just a thought anyway if westmont can wait two more years till i graduate ill coach your team, im gonna need a teaching job too of course.

Wow, Westmont parents what are you going to do if you can't find a coach that wants to put up with you.....Would'nt it be a shame if the school had to cancel the football season because no coach wants to deal with them. It would be terrible if the kids had to pay that price (no season) because of the parents.

DWG were you being sarcastic about the threats and what not? I think everyone from mccort knows that sometimes we do not think of things until after the fact so lets not speculate until something somewhat reasonable comes up. Maybe the toppers will hold a conference for his hiring/resignation?

I told this story a few years ago on this site but it bears repeating now. When Jim Render took over at Upper Saint Clair he faced the same situation that "seems" to be happening in Westmont. (I am only going from what I read on this site) During one of the first week's practices, there were a lot of parents watching, calling to their kids, etc. He stopped practice, called them over, drew a line on the field and told them if they crossed the line he would kick their ###. He wanted absolutly no interference. The rest is history.
Three years ago I was helping a coach from the Heritage Conference with a practice. A parent came on the field to talk to the head coach about his son's playing time. The coach told this parent to "get off my field and take your kid with you". His kid was a starter and a good ball player. The parent left but the kid stayed.
Many parents will take advantage of the situation, IF ALLOWED TO DO SO, whether by the coach or the school administration or school board. Programs that allow this stuff to happen are doomed to failure.

Remember this. There are still two candidates for the job. DeMarco and the guy from PCC are still available. Now we will see if the school board set things up for Sheehan to get the job or if they had a legitimate final three candidates.

If they do not call candidates #2 and #3, then we all know that they wanted to take the easy road and that the runners-up received a token interview. I have a feeling this board is going to be exposed.

I do not think the Westmont School Board understands what an important hire this is. This decision will influence the male enrollment at two institutions, Westmont and Bishop McCort.
