Re: LOL....WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE BM
Actually when ALL students are in grade trouble at BM teachers put in EXTRA time and energy(if the kid is willing). By extra time, i mean stay after school and help the students. How many public school teachers are willing to do that? I knew kids that werent in any sport, and when they started failing classes, they never went to anyone at all for help(zero goal-orientedness). So to say athletes get better treatment, they do, by their teammates and by their own personal drive.

DWG, Most teachers will do that for their students and/or are required to at Public schools. The problem is those same kid's who get the bad grades get them because they don't care or try, so why would they stay after to prolong what they already hate?

the underlined words are BS and just a shot at athletes in general. The Soup wrote:It also helps when you can earn failing grades but still get a 'C' because you're on the football team, and your coach is also the Principal.
Thats what I have a problem with. That isnt a statement to BM, its a lie that goes out to all athletes everywhere. Fellow players, coaches, teachers and of course family members pitch in to help when a player is failing. They earn the grades, not given. I went to BM and kids continually said we football players got better grades for that reason alone. The kids that said that were never the students who got good grades, rather, the sour ones that didnt have a drive or dedication. This isnt just at BM, loser kids everywhere would rather say someone is getting a deal while they are somehow being screwed by the system. I never see those kids working with teachers after class but they can sleep at night knowing its someone elses fault.
Right, required. If not, then you wont see them there because they're not gettin paid. There's a teacher at BM, maybe heard of him, Mr. "D"efazio. He spends his life at BM helping kids with one of the most troubling classes - math.lakersfan24 wrote:DWG, Most teachers will do that for their students and/or are required to at Public schools.
So everyone has the same IQ, it just matters about effort? Wrong! Some kids actually are not brilliant and need extra time with tudors or teachers. Some of these students play some type of sport and are put under the microscope.lakersfan24 wrote:The problem is those same kid's who get the bad grades get them because they don't care or try, so why would they stay after to prolong what they already hate?

Amazing how Dulla came back right before the Tyrone game, though, when he was a junior.

Re: LOL....WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE BM
DWG, that's not what I meant at all. Of course I wouldn't expect you to understand what I'm talking about. Many teachers at FH will stay after school to help a student who asks. The problem, the kids don't ask. I'm sure this problem exists at BM also. I did not infer that everyone had the same IQ or anything near that, but there are courses fit for kids who are academically challenged, and most cases a student only has a failing grade because he or she isn't trying or working hard at all. A 'D' is one thing, but passing a course is managable for MOST students. Combine the chances that this kid happens to be working hard and still failing, a football player, and willing to stay after school (which he probably doesn't want to be at anyway) to work with a teacher in a class he is poor in.. and you will have found very few student-athletes that all this applies to. You make a complete generilization about Public school teachers not wanting to help a student because they are not being paid extra, but you went to a private school I take it? Why the poor attitude toward public teachers? And this teacher you speak of I'm sure loves his job, he doesn't deal with many challenged, extremely poor, or unbehaved students that a public school teacher does! It's easy to love your job at a private school, there are extremely less kidsin a private school that meet the criteria I just listed. So to act like private school teachers are better in anyway, especially when you never attended a public school (I assume).. Is obsurd.
On another note I completely agree with the stereotype that athletes are given grades, completely false... in most cases

Re: LOL....WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE BM
Is it okay when a teacher improves a kid's grade because they are an athlete. Is it also okay if a teacher is tougher on a student because he or she is an athlete? Both are fair, right?

Soup, I am no fan of BM but that was a direct attack at some of their past players. That was far too personal, and it happens to a bunch of kids from every school. And when did having a kid become such a negative thing?!

Yea really Soup, even those who everyone knows HATES McCort don't make direct statements like that...grow up
Re: LOL....WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE BM
I never named names, so obviously many of those on this board know of the kids who benefitted from the lower standards.
When I spend money or make a donation that helps BM and their student-athletes, I wish that they would use it to further the education of the kids, not make a mockery of the system. I am truly a fan of most of the students, kids, and staff. It's just that I am very disappointed in just a handful of adults and students there. Maybe I shouldn't contribute to this topic, because I don't hate BM.
How about you grow up, Chuck Norris!!!!!!

I do not hate bm in any way either, just simply decided someone should stand up for the public teachers.
Soup, no one is talking about the lower standards anyone enjoyed in highschool besides you, I know nothing of that because I never attended BM to have experienced these standards you speak of. However it isn't hard to figure out who you are talking about when you mention trouble with the law, greyshirts, and having a child. Every school has these same kids, and some of these same kids would have graduated from their home district and done similar things! the difference is they played major DI or DII football and their lives then become very public and highly ridiculed. Some of these kids you are describing are still young men as all of us once were- let them make their mistakes, learn, and continue to grow. However for the time being, most of us would appreciate it if you could keep personal comments and low blows like you just posted in your head and off of the forum. If you want to make your point that people benefit from BM's lower standards, please use a few less specific events- why offend anyone who isn't even on the site?!
