Re: officiating at the WPIALS/ good luck to shade
Truth maybe you didn't read about the number of schools that there are in the wpial compared to district 5 or the number of privates.I for one can do simple math and mathematically they have better odds for the above reasons. When you are a private school in a large metro area like pittsburgh philly or harrisburg quite frankly you have the choice of thousands of kids. You can also control enrollment to whatever classification you want in that scenario. We will soon learn the hard way as the rest of philly is now on board. They will now win the lions share of basketball titles for the simple reason they are the most populous are in the state.Developing talent is a lot harder when you don't see the numbers that go through these schools.Yes shade has the same chance as every one else but not the same odds.I would love to see a small district champ but I am a realist and I know you may get to see one every 20 or so years in this small an area.thetruth22 wrote:i'M SO SICK OF THE BICKERING ABOUT WHY DISTRICT 5 AND 6 DONT GET RESPECT.
1ST IT'S NOT POPULATION, YOU HAVE THAT MANY PEOPLE IN YOUR SCHOOL, SO YOU PLAY AGAINST EQUAL ENROLLMENT. ITS NOT LIKE THE SCHOOL CHOOSES TO PLAY SINGLE A, BUT THEY HAVE 10,000 KIDS GO TO THE SCHOOL.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE WHY YOU CANT COMPETE IF YOU HAVE DEVELOPED TALENT NO MATTER WHERE OR WHEN YOU WILL WIN.
SHADE HAS THE SAME CHANCE AS ANY OTHER SCHOOL THAT'S IN THIER STATE CLASSIFICATION, LETS STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR DISTRICT 5, AND 6

Pennsylvania State Playoff Predictions
by Alex Schwartz
Yesterday I posted my predictions for the New Jersey state playoffs, so it's now time for me to do the same for Pennsylvania. I'll be picking the winner of every game for each of the four classes. The PIAA tournament is set up much differently than the NJSIAA's, so it may be a bit harder to follow, but basically, there are 12 districts that each send a designated number of teams to the playoffs for each class, and they are seeded based off how they did in the district tournament. Thus, the Class AAAA District 1 champion, Norristown, is seeded as #1-1, and the Class AAA District 7 runner-up, Highlands, is seeded as #7-2. There are 34 qualifiers for classes A and AAA, 35 in class AA, and 36 in Class AAAA. Take a look at how I see the 2009 PIAA state playoffs going down:
CLASS A
Play-in Round
#1-3 School at Church Farm over #2-2 Freeland MMI
#12-2 Boys' Latin Charter over #3-4 Camp Hill
Round of 32
#3-1 Greenwood over #6-4 Harmony
#12-1 Math, Civics, & Science over #1-3 School at Church Farm
#11-1 Williams Valley over #4-2 St. John Neumann
#1-1 Girard College over #12-2 Boys' Latin Charter
#4-3 Mansfield over #2-1 Old Forge
#1-2 Faith Christian over #3-2 Reading Central Catholic
#4-1 Millville over #11-2 Marian Catholic
#3-3 Scotland School over #6-2 Bishop Carroll
#7-1 Sewickley Academy over #9-4 North Clarion
#5-3 Northern Bedoford County over #9-2 Johnsonburg

#5-1 Shade over #7-4 Neshannock
#7-2 Serra Catholic over #6-2 Conemaugh Valley

Re: officiating at the WPIALS/ good luck to shade
I'm going to be interested in seeing how this guy does with his predictions.
He's expecting that D5 will do well in Round 1.
At first glance, I feel that he may have made some good picks.

Re: officiating at the WPIALS/ good luck to shade
I've got some strong opinions on the Round 1 D5 picks-I think he's got 2 out of the 3 right.Prince Sidewinder wrote:Doctor, throw your picks out to us, you were red hot during the season let's see how you fair in the playoffs!
Now this will take some imagination: Picture this--I'm getting up and moving away from my laptop to avoid whats being hurled my way... IMO, I think he's got the Shade and NB pick correct. There, I said it!
In other matchups:
I think CV has a good team this year, but drawing the matchup with Senna Catholic is a tough one-too tough for the 'young' CV team. I think the choice of Homer Center is also a good one and I'd like nothing better than to see Harmony, who's graduating class # is somewhere in the 20's to pull out the win. I'll give that one (and not without hesitation) to the opposing team.
As for all the others, it looks like he went with the #1 in the districts for Round 1. Probably a good strategy, and one I'll go with.
Note: RE: The IMO picks- If you don't hear from me for a while, I've been hit by incoming through the screen of my laptop...OK, here I go, I'm hitting Submit NOW!

Re: officiating at the WPIALS/ good luck to shade
Hey I believe not one but two little district five schools struck down a pair of the vastly superior WPIAL playoff winners. Is the play above and beyond district 5 ? Great job shade ,tussey and NBC. A triumph for the little public schools of the area!Good luck in your next games and don't believe too much of the hype you read on here. Crow anyone?usatf oldguy wrote:Sorry our talent level isn't up to yours. You know maybe the fact that the population is 10 times or more greater is the reason you guys have better years than district 5 most of the time! This looking down your nose at district 5 and 6 really gets old!steelers1935 wrote:It is quite amazing that afte having the chance to see six wpial championships where the talent and quality of play is above and beyond district V,

Re: officiating at the WPIALS/ good luck to shade
All 4 District 5 coaches (from NS girls, and the boys from TM, NBC and Shade) had their teams prepared well last night. Certainly am not privy to the pre/during game locker room talk, but it appears to be a 'never quit' attitude. Also appears that these players know that its not the predictions that determine the outcome but the will of the players to win on that court.
