Who should the Steelers draft?
Ben R. the Q.B. from miami of ohio i think would be a great pick and fit for the steelers if they could land him in the 2nd round. I think their biggest need first is a running back, i think Julius Jones from Notre Dame is perfect.....size, speed, versatile and he can be a power running back or a finesse type guy. Also, his brother Tom Jones(i think) is a running back for Tampa Bay. So he knows what it would take be a nfl player.
good fits for the steelers to draft, i think--are
QB-Krenzel (OSU) or Mauck (LSU)--both just pittsburgh-type players, tough good passers
RB-Julius Jones(ND) or Stephen Jackson (ORST) both great runners to replace Bettis
I don't know any good centers, but pittsburgh needs one.

I am CAPTAIN OBVIOUS
I am CAPTAIN OBVIOUS
I have been thinking about this a lot lately as I am a HUGE Steeler fan. I DO NOT think they should take a QB with their first overall pick. They have lots of money in this team to win NOW, not later. Drafting a QB is a huge risk, when you can get a proven veteran. Cincy has Palmer, but what do they do with a guy I like...Jon Kitna?
I think there are going to be a good number of very good DBs available via free agency, and this is sort of a weak year for them in the draft. I am not interested in any of them with a first round pick.
Two spots that I want shored up right now as a fan, and you can get two impact players right away...OL and RB. I would look for a player such as Kevin Jones from Va Tech or Steven Jackson if they are still around at RB. He is big, fast (REAL FAST), and he has nice hands out of the backfield. Amos doesn't have the size, and I feel this would be a nice pick for the Steelers. On the OL I think they could solve the most problems with a major pick here. They played this entire season with a OL that was scrapped together. They basically played with some crappy players in there. Marvel Smith will be back at LT (gone most of this year, and he is very good). Faneca can move back to Guard, Hartings at Center, and Simmons will return for his third season at the other Guard. They are one man away from having a very, very good line again (barring injuries). That is why I go after Robert Gallery the big 6'7" 320 lb. OT from Iowa. He could step in right away and start at right tackle.
Other names that interest me:
Marlin Jackson CB-Michigan
Larry Fitzgerald WR- Pitt (if eligible, and if they rid themselves of Plex for a pick)
Kellen Winslow Jr. TE- Miami (I hate how he acts, which is big for me as a fan even if the team wins. I hate A-holes.)
Chris Gamble CB- Ohio St. (maybe in the second round early)
QBs- Rothelisberger, Manning .....I don't want to draft one though.
TRADES: I know it is within the division, but how bout this one...WOULD BE HUGE FOR BOTH TEAMS. Pittsburgh has Hines and RandleEL, and they could draft a guy like Fitz. This won't happen, but it is a guy that will be available...PLEX for Tim Couch because Cleveland doesn't want to be spending tons of bucks on a backup QB. I feel that Couch is still a very good QB.
Also...there are more RBs in this draft that Pittsburgh could use that would go a little later in the draft. Names such as Carnell Williams from Auburn, Michael Turner from Northern Illinois, and Chris Perry from Michigan. This leads me to my final pick.....
Final Pick in my opinion: Robert Gallery- OT, even if you need to trade up. A great offensive line can make any good running back great. Denver just fills guys in and they all do awesome year in and year out. This guy isn't a bigtime runblocker, but he is a GREAT passblocking RIGHT TACKLE with Marvel at the Left side with Faneca (the running side basically). Tommy did great when he had time, and this year he didn't have it. A healthy strong OL fixes a ton of problems for our Pittsburgh Steelers!
Sorry this was so long but I hope you enjoyed the read. :cheesy:

I agree. I think there is almost no chance the steelers will draft a QB just because they drafted one last year. so if they draft one this year it will make it look like they wasted a draft pick on the kid from boston college. i like the pick of Gallery from Iowa he is huge and very quick. I thought he was a left tackle though and if he is u could leave marvel at right tackle and you'll have a solid line other then center. I think if u can get kevin jones he is a jamal lewis or priest holmes type running back with good size and speed. Julius Jones from Notre Dame shouldnt be drafted atleast until 2nd round.
You have some very good points "coach"! I like your 1st pick also and i love your trade idea for couch, if they could get Fitzgerald. but i know it was a stretch to take julius jones in the first rd. ,i still think he is a better pick than kevin jones. kevin jones has never developed into the game breaker that he was supposed to be, besides, he stood PENN STATE up. he originally committed to PSU and then backed out and went to va. tech.. we don't needs guys you can't hold to their word playing for our STEELERS!
