Are you comparing Blair Thomas and Courtney Brown to Eric McCoo. The reason I made the comparison is because McCoo was largely a bust IN COLLEGE. Why wasn't a talented back like Watson given more of a chance? Obviously, if McCoo was an all-American like Brown and Thomas, it would be different.

Kenny Watson was not as good as Eric McCoo in college, Wildcat. This goes right back to what I have been saying all along. The NFL is all about placement. Watson got in in Cincinnati and was able to refine himself into a good RB. Had he gotten in in someplace else, Seattle or Jacksonville or whatever as an example, he'd probably be out of the league by now. It all depends where you get in, and what the depth looks like. You gotta give Watson a lot of credit, because he took advanatge of a given opportunity, post college, and really made a go of it. But when he played at PSU, he was not better than Eric McCoo.

Was Kenny Watson ever given an opportunity? I can't ever remember him getting a large number of carries. He was mostly used as a return specialist. McCoo had a decent freshman season and was never good after that, yet he was still given lots of carries.

Wildcat, I have a slight theory on all this about McCoo and Watson, and you have peeked my curiosity. Let me tear into this today, I'll get back to you.

McCoo finished his college career ranked ninth on Penn State's all-time rushing list with 2,518 yards, leading the Nittany Lions in rushing for 3 years.

Watson was always more of a flanker in college. Him and McCoo have very similar receiving stats but McCoo has way, way more carries.

Watson was banged up a good bit in college as well.

Basically, like I said, when Watson was picked up by the Bengals, he took advantage of that opportunity and become a refined RB.

Willie Parker didnt play much in college either. Watson isn't the only college RB to be underused. It may very well have helped him out down the road in his career. Especially at the running back position where players are only given so many hits on the body.

I don't even know if I agree he was under-used. McCoo was better than him then, Larry Johnson was there, Drummon ran the ball his senior year, and Omar Easy was there as well.

By your point TAE you could argue the success of Shippensburg NFL players against those of PSU. John Kuhn and Robert Davis combine for 2 Super Bowl rings. Putting them on the same plate as Zack Mills.

I agree though, Larry Fitzgerald, Dan Marino, Curtis Martin, Tony Dorsett, Mike Ditka, H.B. Blades, Antonio Bryant, Darelle Revis, just a list of underachievers.

I like how you tried to sneak Blades in there like he has had any NFL success.
