Re: Eddie blows another one.
If a team plays tough in every game... and then loses every one of those games towards the end... most of the time blowing leads... is that a coaching problem?

Not necessarily. Could be a personel issue as well. They dont have the best of talent this year.

Re: Eddie blows another one.
I disagree, Shocker, not when the team follows the same pattern all the time. That's a coaching issue. It was now ans again, that can be personnel, but not when it is very consistent.

Re: Eddie blows another one.
Real quick also... You are 100% right about the personnel this year. Two things.
1. Even with "bad personnel" they are still competitive or WINNING until the end of the games. Then they lose. How can this not be attributable to coaching?
2. This is year 7 of DeChellis's tenure. Why are the players so bad this year? He can't recruit, and there is not even a vision. It would be different if he was bringing in 2-star players who fit his system. Is there even a system? How can the bench be this poor 7 years into a tenure unless the coaching is poor?

Re: Eddie blows another one.
My initial argument was not about DeChillis and his entire season / career of coaching. It was only for the MSU game. That game and that game only was lost because of MSU's defense. To be honest I really could care a less about psu bball and what he does or has did as a coach. You made a statement that was inaccurate and I corrected it.
Maybe he is the worst coach ever. That is not for me or you to decide. But yesterday's game was won due to the fact that psu could not get a good shot off because of MSU locking down on defense near the end of the game.
YESTERDAY John Wooden or Jesus Christ could not have won that game for them. Yesterday they just didn't have the players to finish the game. I am not arguing the entire season.

Re: Eddie blows another one.
When a touchdown is made during the Blue-White game at the end of spring practice, is it because of good offense by one team, or bad defense by the other. That's what you have here, when discussing why PSU lost the Michigan State game yesterday. You have one guy saying that the MSU defense won the game. You have another guy saying the PSU offense was responsible. MSU finally played some defense for 6 minutes during the second half. PSU TRIED to play offense for 40 minutes. If you ask me, the offense was more of a problem, especially when ONE guy scored 30 out of the teams 54 points. And it's that way EVERY game.

Re: Eddie blows another one.
What exactly was "inaccurate" about me telling you that PSU has been doing this all season? Have they not been "in the game" or winning until the end of virtually every single game and blown it the same exact way? The MSU game is 1 cog in a big wheel that is broken regardless. They lost that game the same exact way they lose EVERY game.
I dont expect them to beat Michigan State. But I do expect progress. This team has made NO progress from losing all these games the same way. Now, why is that?

Re: Eddie blows another one.
You follow college basketball, and you are smarter than you lead on, and I wish you would contribute more quality discussion sometimes than just throwing dirt on penn State. That being said... I totally disagree with you saying PSU can't be a competitive bball program. Look at Cornell and Dayton. Same weather conditions, MUCH smaller than Penn State, WAY LESS FINANCIAL BACKING, way worse facilities, and those coaches get those teams into the Ncaa Tourney. Thoughts?

Re: Eddie blows another one.
I was actually kinda takin up for psu and eddie in some of these previous posts! so I dont always slam psu haha
And Thanks for the pat on the back about my college basketball knowledge.
There are alot of variables as to why teams like Dayton and Cornell are succeeding this year and have in the past. Conference strength, other athletic programs to compete with for $, recruiting, etc.. Sometimes these teams get that recruit who wasnt heavily recruited or a late bloomer and was given a chance.
But to answer your question with one reason, I cant.
Look at Phil Martelli years ago when St Joes went undefeated for most of the season. He was the greatest coach since Wooden (everyone thought). Now look at him. Is he now no longer a good coach? what made st joes so good then and not now? Was it coaching or players?? I dont know. But there are many other examples of teams who do well then drop off the radar. How about George Mason? I am not sure all the blame can be placed on one person or thing.
I think if you put either Dayton or Cornell in the Big 10/Big East you would find them to be middle of the road teams at best year in and year out. I dont think they could compete in either the Big 10 or Big East conference. Dayton is actually a middle of the road A10 team this year if you look at standings.
On the other hand, I think PSU would do very well in the A10 conference in basketball. It is much harder to win the Big 10 or even finish as one of the top 4 or 5 to get a bid. Whereas the A10 isn't as strong.
IMO The only quality out of conference team Dayton has played is New Mex and they lost by 2.
As for Cornell they lost to Seton Hall , Syracuse and Kansas. Most of their games are close games. They needed OT to beat Bucknell I believe. And they did beat St Johns. I dont look for either team to do much in the tourney if they make it.
Just my thoughts that you asked for. Dont hammer me too hard
