Re: Is the Big East laying an egg???
According to some folks, the BE has proven they are overrated...BUT, does anyone think KANSAS is overrated, or are they an exceptional team who had an off night??? What about Villanova?
Maybe the BE teams and Kansas are just taking everyone's best shot. One could argue that EVERYONE takes the other team's best shot in the NCAA Tourney...But, how many times do you think Northern Iowa would beat Kansas if they played 50 times? Once or twice?
With that said, there's no excuse for Gtown to get blown out by OhioU, a team Pitt beat by 25 points without Gilbert Brown.
We will see how Cuse, WVU, and Pitt fare today.

Re: Is the Big East laying an egg???
Just like Bowls... I don't think these couple games determine the whole year and validity of a conference.
I think some of thee better teams often play an NBA type of style.
Some of the smaller schools play better BASKETBALL...the old school style of the game and..you have the results. I really feel like Nova plays that NBA style.
I don't think Kansas was overrated. I think this is how a one game playoff of any kind sort of stinks.. the best team doesn't always win it all.

Hey. Even the Pirates could beat the Yankees in a one game series, which is what a tournament game is like.

If your star point guard has a bad shooting night, you have a great chance at going down.
Look at Kansas and Villanova. Collins was 4-15 from the field and 0-6 from behind the arc. Result? Loss to Northern Iowa.
Reynolds was 2-15 from the field and 1-8 from behind the arc against Robert Morris. Then yesterday, he was 2-11 from the field in their loss to St. Mary's.

Re: Is the Big East laying an egg???
That's right. So anyone determining how conferences compare based on these tournament games is crazy. After all, what about the 30+ games everyone played BEFORE the tournament?

just like how we hear all that stuff around bowl time Moldy...
That said... I do think the BE was overrated in hoops and football. Florida showed that vs. Cincy.

Re: Is the Big East laying an egg???
You think????? Too bad the EXPERTS thought differently. And you're basing a conference being overrated by ONE game?? I thought you would now better than that.
