I think if the top 4 in D5 matched up with the top 3 in D6 at the end of the year (minus McCort who wins all the time for some unknown reason  ), you might see two winners from D5 and one from D6.

My Projected D5 top 3 at the end of the year:
Berlin
NBC
Conemaugh Twp/North Star/Windber

D6 top 3
Bellwood
Penns Manor
Glendale/Juniata Valley/United

Notice the private schools are all eliminated. The way it should be!

Let McCort, Carrol, and BG play for their own trophy since they are the same size, but play within rules that nobody else is allowed to go by!

An idea from past

"while we're talking about crazy things let's imagine combining all the westpac schools into a single A powerhouse with the sole purpose of beating BM every week. That way the public school hillbilly kids could have fun talking smack on the private schools and how weak the LHAC and WPIAL are. We would still give them trophies so they can feel just as special as us. We'll call it Shanksville-Berlin-Shade-Salisbury-Stony Creek-Brothersvalley-Central City-Elk Lick-Blacklick-Meyersdale-Turkeyfoot-North Star-Conemaugh Township-Windber-Portage-Ferndale Area High School and we'll send enough kids to Vo-Tech and work release to still be considered a single A school. Then we'll dedicate a whole forum to our school on bleachercoaches.com and we will degrade anybody who wants to talk about anything else. We'll win states every year and then our baseball team will scrimmage the Pirates at PNC park."

How about this, combine 5 and 6 or at least split the two districts so that there are an equal number of teams in both. Sorry to say it but no one in district 5 is beating Mccort, I dont care how off of a season they are having.
Why would any "A" teams in D5 willingly join D6 for a Football playoff? Why would one district want to eliminate a chance for their schools to win district championships and earn recognition? It's not about being able to beat McCort - it's about having the opportunity to win a district championship and play in the PIAA playoffs. Having a successful sports year can change the entire complexion of a school district. D5 may be smaller than D6 in terms of classification and teams, but that doesn't mean the entire district should be eliminated or forced to join another district. What if Forest Hills was forced to join D7 for the Football playoffs? They would still have some success, but what about the other D6 teams that would lose their spot because of combining with another district? Are you saying the bottom 4 teams in the D6 "AA" playoffs don't deserve a shot a district title? Because that's exactly what would happen if you'd combine two districts so "there are an equal number of teams in both."

As it is right now, no one is sitting at home that actually belongs in the playoffs. Yes, there are teams from D5 that should not be rewarded with a playoff game when they have only 4 wins, but those teams entering the playoffs are not taking away spots from any D6 teams, so why combine?

so portage who finished third last year and would have mopped up anyone in D5, runs into stronger competiton and is eliminated? Why is that ok so that your weak district sends someone to the state playoffs?
District 5 needs to step up and let some other teams in, Somerset was a start, but why is there such a discrepancy in the number of D5 vs D6 teams. Even Geographically something should change, D6 is huge by both teams and size.

And there's a ton of teams in D7, D4 etc that don't make the playoffs that would mop up most teams in D5 and D6. Bottom line is does it really matter? The best from D6 make the playoffs and 4-win teams from D5 make the playoffs. Which would you rather have?

D5 will allow more teams in.

D6 vetoes it.

CK, Portage, and I believe one other school... Ferndale??? They wanted in before.

D5's best is usually pretty good and has given the D7 champ a run for their money at least once (North Star had the eventual western champ by 14 points late in the game before blowing their lead...I think this was the 07 season). They would have beaten the D6 winner. I think this year's D5 is just as good as D6.

JV and Glendale will make the playoffs, but I doubt you'll see them in the Championship. I also, doubt that you'll see either of those teams beat BA this year. Time will tell, let me know after week 7 and 8 :)

Let's take another Sunday morning look and see where we're at...

BB, CT, NB...Top 3 seeds so far..all have made the 4-0 plateau...All 3 have mathematical chance to run the table...that's a BIG IF..If they do, tiebreaker gives either BB or CT the #1 seed, the other #2 and NB is 3 because they can't get a 'AA' win if their WestPac foes get one over Ridge (BB already has)
Also will one or two of these top seeds be allowed home games in weeks 10 and 11? or will there only be one time to host and the semis go to neutral?

Will 6 others get to 4 wins also and force a # 9 4-5 seed to stay out of playoffs? still can happen.
let's look who may get there in weeks 5,6,&7
current #4...TM already 3 wins... next three...MV, NB, Wil...should get to win 4 sometime.

next four teams...all have 2 wins need 2 more
The NS- Mey winner gets one.... then NS faces Rockwood and BV...Mey faces BB and Shade..if Mey loses to NS and BB, they might have to wait until week 9 and Rockwood to get to 4...if NS doesn't get there by week 7, CT and Win awaits at the end.

Windber... Por, Fern, CV...get two (if not all 3) of these and get in

Shade...BB saltsb, Mey...needs Salts and one of week 8 or 9 against Rock or BV

one win needs 3 more

Rockwood ...CV, NS and BB... if they only get one of these...needs to get Shade and Meys at end..doubt if they get there.

Needs four...
Eve...WB, SH, MU...should get two of these then pick up 2 more at the end..(Wil & CK)
so nine teams could get 4.
