1. If Harrison's hits were illegal and warranted fines then why didn't the offivials throw any flags?
2. Didn't Harrison use his shoulder pad to hit Massaquoi?
3. How can Harrison be fined for hitting Cribbs as a running back and wasn't a defenseless receiver in the act of catching yhe ball?
This is a knee jerk reaction by the NFL despot Roger Goodell.

I believe the NFL is going to start suspending not only for helmet to helmet hits, but devastating hits as well...whatever that means.

******* the NFL. Seriously what are they trying to prove. The players are the ones upset about this. They are the ones that are putting their bodies on the line every week. Goodell just wants to hear his name on Sportscenter as much as possible. People act like 75K isn't a big deal to James Harrison. Do people realize these players have at best a 10 year career? That means they have 10 years to make a living (opposed to the 30-35 year career with most professions). These players will have medical bills for the rest of their lives. They don't have health insurance after they retire. Mike Webster died in his 50's as a broke (nearly homeless) man that sold all of his super bowl rings. Who does Roger Goodell think he is? The NFL administration is a joke and its time that the fans of this league make a push to get that dickweed out as commissioner.

I think its funny saying Troy would never do something intentional like a helmet to helmet. Have you ever seen the video of him in college almost kill that kid from Fresno, and he has laid out a ton of folks helmet to helmet, thats why he is about one concussion away from retirement or a retirement home.
I couldn't agree more about Goodell. However, this is an outrageously tough, determined, and intelligent man. I had the displeasure of meeting him at Wand J once, he is an @##clown, but he does understand the economics of the NFL. QBs, Wideouts, and running backs put butts in the seats and jersey's on kids backs. Lets understand that he doesn't come up with these sorts of ideas all by himself. The politics of the NFL are almost worse than normal politics. When you have team owners wanting the franchise face on the field and not on the sideline with a head injury, not to mention the players union wanting to protect players, and a ton of other folks lobbying, there is only one option. With that said, is the NFL going to turn into a touch league? Possibly. I do think that Goodell, has made some improvements in off field sorts of things. I am only saying some.
Wait to see this sort of thing trickle into the NHL. Its coming, and we all know it. If Sid every gets hit like Kasparaitis hit that moron Lindros, you will see this same sort of thing happen.

Crimson, first off, I think you are misunderstanding the Polumalu thing. I believe he was referring to the money and fines, and was just using Troy as an example without bashing him.
As far as this happening in the NHL, they are already cracking down on blindside hits. I really don't think the NHL is going to do away with huge hits anytime soon. They allow fights for christsakes. If anything, when you see the fighting completely out of the league, you will eventually see huge hits diminish. But lets not worry about the NHL, it really isn't a problem for them at the moment.

I was reading it as he believed that Troy would never go helmet to helmet, which is farce.
The fighting in the NHL is very different than it was a couple years ago, changes are coming.

This doesn't make sense to me. You don't want to see back up QBs and WRs because of starters being injured, but you don't mind seeing back up Safeties, LBers, and Corners because of the starters being suspended for a hit?
Ah yeah, I'd rather see Peyton Manning and Tom Brady play than Brandon Merriweather. Merriweather's hit was a cheap shot.

Winston did you even read the rest of my post? Not all shots are cheap. If its just a huge hit why should a player be suspended? They are going to start suspending for "devastating" hits, not just cheap shots and helmet to helmet hits. To me thats stupid. Huge hits are part of the game.

I had this thought today. I think these huge hits are starting to come from both sides. Such as crack backs, and special teams sorts of things. Remember when Hines broke that guys jaw? I think the next time a receiver decleats someone, you may have the same sorta fine issue. Maybe not. It is a sad state of football, but it is a business, and like any business, folks are gonna protect their money makers.
