Re: Westpac week 1
They don t play the team from MD or the team with 5th yr SR's they actually picked up United.
I would n t say 0 chance of winning a West Pac game but I get what your saying.

They could beat valley. The blue jays are weak to say the least

Ferndale wouldn't have a chance against a .500 GJYFL team

Valley has a few studs in the making. That Uncapgher boy has been impressing and they also have newcomer Mike Maketa who has been very impressive thus far from what i heard

The Eisenhuth kid does have some talent he also has a decent receiver in Mason.. CV won the matchup last yr in week 10 Ferndale won it the yr before.

thebrigade wrote:Meyersdale @ Conemaugh Township - Good matchup here. both teams run similar offenses. Both teams are senior laden. meyersdale coming off a 4-6 season took a loss a few weeks ago with hoover going down with a broken collarbone. Q/B position is up for grabs between donaldson and coaches son. big senior line this year with berkley back at FB. Township only lost 3 starters but were most of their offense in byers and stumpo. new Q/B in Grant speigle who is untested. shroyer will move from his starting wr spot to tb this year. good recieving core in zambanini, domonkos, and berchick as well as ewing at FB. decent line also returning.
Rockwood @ Windber - Rockwood is coming off a 3-6 season returning is 3rd year starter Ben miller at QB. Sleasman is returning at TB position after racking up over 1000 yds last season. could improve on last years record but unfortunately start out against a windber team that only lost 6 to graduation albeit one of their leading scorers in jarod cover. Pipon is a great athlete returning at QB and Colin Bryan will move to the TB position with mock lining up as his FB. 18 seniors this year for windber but a new head coach in Grohal who has been with these kids so impact should be minimal.
Shade @ Portage - Shade is coming off a 2-7 season but like a lot of teams will return their starting QB, FB, and TB. shade has speed on their line but will lack the size when it comes to some of the other westpac teams including this weeks opponent portage coming off a 8-3 season. although they only have 7 returning lettermen, they have 50 kids on their roster plugging 7 new offensive players and 7 defensive players would make you think this is a rebuilding year but portage has a great QB in bryja and has a big line in front of him. look for another good year from portage.
Blacklick @ Blairsville - Blacklick Valley will have to replace Manda this year at QB and Sheesley should do the job. he is a versitile player and should be a clone of manda. blacklick has some transfers that came in from Bishop Carroll and will be running a new offense to help sheesley out. line is a bit small but should do fine with their speed..
Berlin @ Ferndale - Berlin is coming off their 9-0 westpac record but lost a lot of talent in sayler, will, and stockwell. They have 8 returners from last years defense and will look for glotfelty and dauphinais to pick up were last years offense left off. Craig will be a impact both on offense and defense this year. Ferndale is coming off a 0-9 season and return Eisenhuth at QB. another good athlete who will have 2 targets to throw to. not sure if the line will be able to hold off Craig and the berlin defense this week.
Finally....
District 5 champs North Star @ Conemaugh Valley - North Star is returning Stud QB Max Straisser his favorite target, brother Tony, and Hayden Rigo on the line. N.S. will have to replace the loses of Watkins, stahl, zerfoss, and friedline, who helped shore up last years state run in the playoffs and should have those to do it. C.V. coming off a 0-9 season with a new coach. valley has 7 starters on offense and 7 on defense with a good size line. not sure who will get the starting nod at QB as unchapher has tried out for the job. Valley will definately win games this year in my opinion but unfortunately like rockwood has a tough week 1 opponent
It should be interesting to see who North Star has filled in for the seniors they lost last year. Friedline was a 1000 yard rusher, and a good linebacker, Watkins was a good fast, shifty and quick target for Max, and Zerfoss was the leading tackler and a big part of that defense.. but i think they'll have people ready to fill in to get the job done
