I have all Laurel Valley games and most games of its predecessors Bolivar and New Florence. Although this area is in Westmoreland County I know that Bolivar played d-6 basketball as a member of the old Southern Cambria League and Ligonier missed a chance to make the WPIAL playoffs one year because Bolivar was not (never) a member of the WPIAL. If New Florence was not considered a member of d-6 I would have no idea what it would have been considered since they played mostly members of d-6 followed by d-5 and then a (very) few WPIAL teams. Just let me know an email addy to send you this information.

I also know Red and Black has access to this info for Ligonier all time and since joining d-6 in 1970 (or is it 1969)

Cleaverstuart
[email protected] will work.

I'm take any information anybody is willing to give me. Hopefully this rolls forward and I can get the information to take it statewide for all teams to ever take a snap on the gridiron.

Thanks for the help!

My favorite game vs MU was when Roseberry was still in school and we played up here during the remnants of a hurricane, the field was ankle deep mud and Rick Hatch knocked my favorite ref. about 20 yds backwards and sent him into a 10 yd long facefirst slide. It was classic! Rosey was bringinging back an int and Hatch was running along the sideline screaming encouragement and we'll call him "Mr K" stepped off the field out of the way and right into the path of a steamrolling Hatch. I don't think I've laughed that hard since. The bad part was, those were the days when I was still involved with the Jr High and we had a game the next morning and guess who the head ref was?....we had 2 tds called back and 14 penalties....glad old Rich doesn't hold a grudge...lol.

I heard the Hatchet Man is looking good, and much healthier than he was when he body blocked the ref.

Yeah, Haven't talked to him but he was at the Central game(coincidentally him and Rosey were honorary captains that night) he still wears the shorts and jacket but he could fit into the leg of the shorts he used to wear.

Maybe the Pennsylvania Football News can help your project.

How do you browse the Altoona Mirror and Huntingdon Daily Times archives? How about the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat?

Good luck on your project.

Is Johnstown's Tribune-Democrat in there? If so, how far does it go back?

At the Johnstown library, the Tribune on microfilm goes back to 1853. Just in case you want to know when JoePa began playing pee wee football.

The Trib-Democrat isn't on there unfortunately, Indiana has newspapers back to the 1860s though. The Bedford Gazette has papers from back in the 1890s. Altoona Mirror from the 1880s. Some of them aren't in great quality and some even have pages missing, but it's been pretty good thus far.
