93? No way. Probably closer to 85. If I were his teammate or coach I don't know if I would care if he spent the rest of the fall playing baseball...

Unfortunately this is the new way things are going in this area.

Non PIAA sanctioned sports during other PIAA sports seasons are hurting high school athletics. Individuals are getting more attention in the district 5-6 area. AAU and fall baseball have made their way here and kids everywhere think they are going pro now.

This kid IS going pro (or to a D-1 college if he chooses) is he doesn't injure his arm or shoulder during football season. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision for he or his family.

How many people from this area have gone pro or played D1? I have seen much better pitchers around here than him that never went pro... unless he got ten times better from this past high school season he isn't going any higher than D2.

The only way Shippy can throw that fast is if he is driving down I-99 at 93 MPH and throws a basball out the window

Is there Shippey hate in Bedford County? I wasn't aware.

While I agree 93 is probably pushing it, I've seen him at 89 on a reputable gun and been told by reputable baseball sources that he's hit 90. Based on his arm slot, he's a "projectible slider guy" and at his age that makes him a valuable commodity.

It doesn't matter what he hits on the gun or what he looked like in baseball season last year, he had an opportunity to showcase his talent in front of scouts of a very high caliber and you would be a fool not to take advantage of that. It was one high school football game vs. a potential lucrative career. Not everyone has aspirations at being "top row hero" in the stands at football games for the next 40 years of their lives.

Top Row Hero - Those that arrive to high school football games 2 hours in advance to be sure to have that top row standing spot. So not only will the few sitting around them be annoyed by their screaming at the refs, line, and coach but the entire stands have to hear them. Top Row Hero is usually the result of people that were once a player on the football team that got blinded by putting high school football first and foremost in their lives and now are reliving their past and reflecting on their depression from the top row of the bleachers.

No Shippey hate in Bedford County that I'm aware of. I think ditching his football team in the middle of a playoff race would hurt the perception of his character more than it would help his baseball future. Bedford with Shippey wins that game last Saturday.

Bottom line is, if you really are THAT good of a pitcher and you do happen to be hitting low 90's, you WILL get looks by D1 and pro scouts. You don't need to go to Florida to pitch in some showcase for scouts, THEY would be coming to see YOU in the Spring.

The definition of top row hero was terrific.

Thank you :))

I know its a hard to miss chance, but again whether it was the right move or not, its selfish. 50 other kids on that team were counting on him to be there, plus all the coaches that put in the work with him. I menn somebody stated it obviously wan't an easy situation or choice. But still, a lot of people were counting on him. Now playoffs are certainly in question. But if it works out in the end, than so be it, who are any of us to say it was the wrong choice.

Also, by this point if you are going D1, you are likely to have offers or have committed already. believe or not, its late in the game for college recruiting, especially in baseball. Most of that work comes from your junior year, and the summer leading up until your senior year. I know Cooper from McCort attended an out of state showcase thing and mised a McCort scrimmage early in the year. This just seems to be odd timing all around, even on the showcases's part. Tons of good Baseball players double up as Football players as well.
