lol, thanks guys. In reality they could hang their hats on being part of the wpial. The problem with that is there are terrible teams in the wpial just like there are terrible teams in every other district.
A Avella
Leechburg
Bentworth
West Greene
Geibel Catholic
South Side Beaver
Union
AA Burgettstown
Apollo Ridge
Deer Lakes
West Shamokin
Wilkinsburg
Brownsville
Mohawk
Freedom
AAA Valley
McGuffey
Albert Gallatin
Kittaning
Ambridge
Derry
Uniontown
AAAA Norwin
Hempfield
Kiski
Canon-Mac
Butler
These are just the ones off the top of my head. Ligonier Valley would be added to this list so saying they are part of the best district in the state would not hold much water. Make no mistake about it, the wpial is by far the best district in the state IMHO, but LV would bring nothing to the table.

sportsfan1000, you make a good point when you say there are "bad" teams in the WPIAL. What you fail to point out os that even the very best of District 6 in virtially any class would be merely above average WPIAL teams.

Wpialtitan,
The reason I failed to mention that is because I wasn't really talking about that. I was talking about LV. If you want my opinion on that I would tend to agree with you. On most years the best in D6 would just be above average in the wpial. Now, there are exceptions to the rule. The past decade BM would have been at the top of A right below Clairton and Rochester. FH could definitely crack the top five with some of their best teams. I think the past two years Johnstown would have been competitive with all but a select few.
Other than those few exceptions I think you are right. I watched Upper St Clair and North Allegheny the past two weeks on Root Sports and the physicality with which their lines play is nothing we see here. Now we don't have those size schools for the most part but nonetheless they are very impressive.

WPIAL, 2009 Clairton steam rolled everyone except Laurel and Rochester. And if you take away self inflicted wounds McCort beats them to win the state championship.

Re: Where did Ligonier Valley apply for membership first?
I wouldn't go that far. Clairton was the better team, yet beatable. McCort was the second best team in the State I feel. I think they would have beaten a Rochester team, but thats old news.
But the point is, The best D6 teams would be among the best teams in the WPIAL. Does our best beat their best? No, usually not. But our best could hang with their 3rd and 4th best on most years, at least A and AA. Johnstown would be a playoff team with a 6-3, 7-2 record in the WPIAL AAA.

Big Ben, It always makes me laugh that many people don't understand that each class has the same number of each school class and not a unmoving line in the sand. So even with the large number of students moving from the Laurel Valley attendence area I don't so that happening. Thats also why you have so many school that play A football and AA basketball after all the schools that don't play football are classified for basketball.
For everyone else the people of the Ligonier area are much more comfortable traveling rt 30 toward Allegheny county or to rt 70. When I coached teener baseball and midget football in the MVMFL all I heard was complaints about traveling to Cambria/Indiana county even when it has been proven that the milage will not decrease in what ever section that Liggy would be be placed into.

Re: Where did Ligonier Valley apply for membership first?
Ligonier's boy enrollment was at 231 2 years ago. There are 143 teams in A and 55 teams with a lower enrollment in AA. So with 198 teams under them, Ligonier needs 50 some teams to voluntarily play AA or gain more students then them, before they will play A. So I don't see them dropping anytime soon. We will see when the new numbers come out in December but 231 seems low for Ligonier. Laurel Valley was probably around 100 boys, Ligonier had to have more than 131.
Re: Where did Ligonier Valley apply for membership first?
I find it hard to believe the PIAA is willing to play a "if we're class A we want to stay in District 6, if we're class AA we want to be District 7 (the WPIAL)." The list of schools with enrollments and the district they will play in will be announced November 14th. No time for games with those guys.
Re: Where did Ligonier Valley apply for membership first?
The PIAA could care less which district they decide to participate. This invloles the district level committe. LV could apply to the WPIAL, district 6 still would have to release them.
Re: Where did Ligonier Valley apply for membership first?
It does not matter where they go they will get there butts kick in either conference outside the heritage. They just lost to PO in week 10 and now they have to play richland looks like another loss for them and another year of one and done in the playoffs.
